I am currently trying to get Q9550 and I have a feeling that I might need to overclock it
to 3.4ghz so it can achieve 1:1 ratio with ddr800.

At the same time, I am also trying to get Arctic cooling freezer pro 7.
I was informed that Artic cooling freezer pro 7 comes with preapplied thermal paste.

So do i need to buy additional thermal grease( paste ) or should I just
put the arctice cooling freezer on top of CPU ( without applying any paste ) when i build a system??

There's not much of a chance of hitting 3.4 Ghz with an AC Freezer 7 without overheating. Of course, you won't need to overclock at all to run PC6400 RAM @ 800 DDR, to begin with.

But someone has told him that he has to run 1:1 to achieve magical performance.

hmm.. I thought Q9550 was easy to overclock due to high multipliers.
Q9550 has 333 mhz and I still have to overclock it to 400mhz to achieve 1:1 with
PC6400.

Lets say E8400 can easily hit 3.6ghz on stock cooler
So how does it go for Q9550?

It's a quad, so you need a more beefy cooler. Try a tuniq tower, or zerotherm nirvana, etc.

Thanks. But what i wanna know is how much it is going to hit on stock cooler while remaining stable just as how majority of E8400 owner can hit around 3.6ghz on stock cooler.

I have a 45nm quad and I would say 3ghz is about as high as I would go on the stock cooler, you go much higher and you will be looking at 80c load temps. A good aftermarket HSF really is a must when overclocking quads

You are right. Someone told me that I would gain magical performance and the
whole world will fall in my hand.

Either you have a big hand or it's a small world? :)

BTW, my Q9450 has a tuniq and temps @ 3.4 is 58c -60c max @ full load. At night when it cools, 54c - 58c max. Using no air cond in house, windows are open.

Doesn't matter bro. Its going down. :)

and as for your setting, Is that on stock voltage or did you adjust it?
tuniq seems like a good cooler but im not sure that would fit on P5Q pro board.
