get some artic silver 2... then put a uber-thin coat on the proc before the hsf

-btw, you can probably find info in the cpu processing/overclockers forum

that's AMD's official line but you'll find much better heat transfer using AS2 than using a thermal pad! :)

Does it matter how thick of a coating you put on the core? I mean, not super thick, but put enough on, don't worry about it being super thin, cause when you clip the HSF on, it is going to squeeze any excess out the sides.

At least that's what I do. Arctic Silver only...

AMD's official stance is to not use paste, but use a pad (due to paste's tendency to work it's way out over time). However, the thermal properties of ASII vs a pad makes AS much more desirable, & most of us don't put our systems together & leave them for ages.

My system is using the thermal pads that came with the retail sinks.

but when it squeezes out the excess.. realize that thats gonna be moving around and getting on whatever parts... granted its not supposed to do any damage and be completely safe.. but you never know... it could have some metal shavings in it or something weird from your case or whatever
