I got some of that gum like thermal pad stuck to the CPU I gotta as much as i could off but there is still some left I will be putting on that artic silver stuff on I hope I dont fry the CPU will I have any problems?

The get the full benefits of the Arctic Silver, you should remove all trace of the older thermal pad. Acetone or nail polish remover will work perfectly for doing this.

Acetone won't mess up your processor. It's great stuff for cleaning off crud from electronic equipment.

Just make sure the top of the cpu core is well cleaned...sometimes after long use of thermal pad, it can get over the sides of the core and between bridges and such...can be hard to get cleaned out of those areas but as long as the top of the core is cleaned to be able to apply thin coat of AS II then you are fine...I have used rubbing alcohol as well...

shaving cream and perfumes...NO!!!

They contain to many other engredients that can stay on the core and act as a layer to inhibit proper heat transfer...

Get some rubbing alcohol as it is pretty good to have in the house anyways...no dies no nothing...it damn near evaporates completely within seconds...

I find it hard to believe that you can't find any nail polish remover. Ask your mom, or your mom's friends or something. Girlfriend? Sister? Neighbour? It's a pretty common household item. Nail polish remover is the way to go. I used it, and then cleaned up a bit with rubbing alcohal just to be on the 'neurotic' side.

just found some rubbing alcahol and cleaned it off no I have to wait till frieday for the artic silver 2 and also when I put on the artic silver do I just put it on the top of the cpu or around it too?

just on the raised core since it is the only part that makes contact with the bottom of the heatsink for the heat transfer...

Check out some of the overclocker sites as theytend to have a guide for applying this stuff...I have always used the thermal pads and oc my chips about a minimal 10 percent so far and my temps are far from scary...1.1@1.2tbird 38c idle 45c under load, with the room ac cooled to 68-70 my temps have been running 34c idle and 42c load...

Only the parts that will be touching the heatsink.
