Thermal Pad or Grease?

Are there any tests (unbiased and scientific highly desired) out there that clearly show that good TTC (ASII) is indeed superior to pads? It would seem with no preparation (ensuring a smooth surface) the pad could produce more repeatable and *possibly* better results. Most of the cheap OEM HS' have very rough bottoms. I have an AMD Retail Box HSF in front of me and the bottom is quite rough.

Cheers!

Yes, the thermal konductance specifikation is known for both and relatively konstant. However, in actual use misapplication of the grease can cause overheating! I see plenty of photographs that show processors after testing and there is compound everywhere! I get 30+ applications from a small syringe of ASII. Perhaps I'm not using enough!

Since there is no way to reuse or remove a pad from one HSF and apply it to another, and I haven't seen the pads for sale, komparison analysis will be difficult.

Cheers!
