Is there any difference between AS5 and MX-1, supplied with the artic heatsinks?Asking because I'm wondering about what would better, which I am going to be getting the 64 freezer.

According to the manufacturer, MX-1 contains no metal. It lasts for at least 8 years.

Interesting blurb.
"Durability

The compound hardens within a period of 200 hours and reaches thereafter its optimum performance. Because of the hardened compound, no evaporation or bleeding is possible. In contrast to metal or silicon pastes, this compound does not show decreasing performance over time, does not need to be reapplied and has a durability of at least 8 years."
MX-1 Main features

It's interesting that this compound "hardens" after 200 hours. It isn't touted as an adhesive. Removing a heatsink afterwards may require some care so not to damage the cpu.

I would use it if came for free with the heatsink. I can always fall back on my lifetime supply of Ceramique if I wasn't satisfied.

Give it a whirl and keep us informed of its progress.

Hello,

I recently purchased an Arctic Cooling Freezer HSF for my LGA 775 'Press-hott' CPU (RIG below). Directron sent it with many noticeable surface markings (from the manufacturer?), however, the HSF performed beyond well.

I did notice surprising results with the MX-1 thermal paste. You will find it extremely difficult to try and spread the gum/cement-like paste onto the back of the CPU, but luckily I experienced a technique on applying the thinnest layer possible. You should be able to squeeze two applications out of the tube, if not, one.

I was able to obtain CPU idle temperatures @ 35-39C, and 54C Load temps @ the most. (BTW, my Lian LI w/ the window case CLOSE, air cooled with its two front 80mm fan, one 80mm exhaust fan in the back, and a PCI exhaust). I'd say give it a try and let us know of your results.^^
