Thermal Grease Usage

So like Intel is shipping their faster processors now with a syringe of gray thermal compound instead of using the tape crap.

The instructions say to apply the ENTIRE contents of the syringe onto the top of the processor. This amount of compound I could easily do 10 processors with.

What's the deal with that? You would think that Intel knows what they are doing.

I would assume its just easier to explain that way of doing it rather than measuring grains of rice with AS. It also pretty much guarantees that the entire cpu will be covered and that there are no gaps in coverage. Given the pressure the heatsink is held down with any excess will push out and continue to do so as it heats up.

That does seem weird. Are there any pictures or other instructions other than to squeeze it out onto the heatsink?

Yep, shows a picture of the CPU with a glob of compound the size of a large marble sitting on top of it.
