I've been pushing AC MX-1 on the boards since last year. :)

Here's yet another reason why:

Thermal Compound show-down. And the winner is...

I agree 100% with this author's list, however...

If you'll notice, at the bottom of the post, you'll see:

Great Thermal Compound
Apus TMG 301 52.5
Gigabyte 52.5
Titan Nano Grease TTG-G30010 52.5
GFC-M1 D90T8-010 52.5
Shin-Etsu MicroSi G-751 52

Best Thermal Compound
Arctic Cooling MX-1 51.5
Shin-Etsu MicroSi MPU-3.7 50.5
Coollaboratory Liquid Pro 50
LoL!

I guess the author doesn't realize AC MX-1 = Shin-Etsu G-751, e.g. AC MX-1 is simply branded/repackaged Shin-Etsu G-751. :D

Anyway, good read!

he has good heatware:

i use that stuff and it kicks butt. But application is different. So guys if your going to buy it, follow the tape method on the heat sink. It seriously improves it by like 3-4C.

Heh!

First of all congratulations, and welcome to 'the club'! :D

Secondly, yes, Shin-Etsu X23 is newer than MX-1/G-751, and it supposedly works a little better, plus it's a LOT easier to apply, according to reports!

My understanding is... MX-1/G-751 works best on rougher surfaces and X23 is better for smooth/lapped surfaces.

Guess I'll by some X23 and give it a whirl, however, the larger point is... AC MX-1 is hard to beat!

MX-1 and the shin-etsu G751 stuff is the same? Where did you get that info, I haven't heard that before. If it is the same then why is the shin-etsu so much more expensive?

I too have used X23-7783D and find it to be a fine thermal paste (that's the latest X23, there's an older version called X23-7762).

edit: I've probably pasted this somewhere in here before (know I have in the CPU forum), but . . .

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware...-Interface-Shootout-ftopict221751.html

this is why I went with X23-7783D in the first place.

edit2: were we all ubar-leet, we'd use bulk diamond thermal grease along with heatsinks/waterblocks/whathaveyou and IHSs supporting this technology:
