Thermal Compound Application

So, what is the general opinion on applying thermal compound?

I'll be using Arctic Silver 5 with a TT Venus 12 on a A64 3200+

Here is Thermaltake's instructions:

http://www.thermaltake.com/support/installguide/coolers/a1744venus12.pdf

And here are Arctic Silver's instructions (step 9 for AS-5):

http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions_big2.htm

Basic difference between the two: TT says to spread compund evenly across the whole processor. AS says to put a small blob on the center of the processor.

Thanks- J.
