There's this weird lump on my chest and I'm scared *update*

The other day I was feeling my chest to see what gains I've made (I am a guy for the record, and I lift weights so I'm not a pervert or anything) and I felt a weird lump on my upper right breast. I didn't feel it on the other one so I got worried, but I didn't worry about it again until tonight. I did a closer examination and now I just feel scared.

It's located near the middle of my chest where the breasts meet on the upper right breast. If you were to draw a diagonal line upward from my nipple to the middle of my chest, the endpoint would be where the lump is. The lump seems firm - not hard, but not pillowy soft. I really do not think its chest muscle (I've started to gain the "rippled" look inbetween the breasts that you get when you've made good gains on the chest when you work out) If I pull my chest as tight as I can I can see the faint indention of the lump on my chest. There's no lump on the other breast or else I wouldn't be worried.

It doesn't hurt when I press down on it unless I press with great pressure, and it just squishes in the general direction when I press down on it (but goes back to original size/shape/location when I let go)

I'm wondering: is there some sort of bone or muscle that occurs naturally there, or is this something I need to go see a doctor about? Any serious replies/help is very appreciated.

- A worried RB

*update* - doctor said it was just that my right pec is more developed due to weight lifting than my left, nothing to worry about. whew. thanks to all who had concern for me

If your really scared, do the right thing and go get professional medical opinion. That way is the only way you'll feel more calm.
Thats the truth...about one year ago i (actually my GF did. ;) ) found a lump on one of my testicles...scared the hell out of me. I went to the hospital that morning and had it checked out...i was really worried but turned out to be some form of urinary infection.
Point is, go to the doctor...only way you'll feel better.
best of luck.

If you don't mind, how old are you? You should definitely get it checked out by a doctor by the way. But depending on your age, a tumor is not extremely likely. I read somewhere that some men get lumps around/near their chest area, but they usually disappear over a period of time.

Could be an infection or a swollen lymph node. Nothing too serious if you have it checked out soon. Have you been sick lately?

I don't think you should worry then, you are young! But just to be safe, go see a doctor!

vi - yea as of late I've been somewhat sick - had this cough and congestion that stayed for a couple days. Then allergy-like symptoms where I'd have a stuffy nose for a couple days.

Check with your doctor ASAP......... I don't want to scare you but men do get breast cancer also.

It's probably terminal. You should start executing a living will right now and part out your computer to everyone who posts in this thread.

Thanks for the advice guys. I still have that weird feeling inside of me because until I do get it checked out I'll be fearing the worst, but I'm glad I got your opinions.

disclaimer: i am not a doctor, and this is not a diagnosis...

i forget what the medical term for it is, but you can sometimes get a small lump of fatty tissue under your skin. It might be that, if it is, i believe it can simply be cut out fairly easily under local anesthetic. Go see a doctor in any event, however.

Glenn1 you stole my thoughts exactly! ;)

What Glenn is referring to is a lypoma, not to be confused with lymphoma. It's fairly common, and as Glenn noted, easily excised. I've had a couple removed myself, one of which was in the underarm area and really had me scared (was in same area as some major lymph nodes). Here's a link to some info on lypomas, courtesy of the Mayo Clinic.

You still need to see a Dr. as there are several other valid possibilities that have already been mentioned here earlier.

RagingBITCH: i had a lump in my right forearm once, similar in the feel described by you. i didn't do anything about it (i was a poor teenager) and it eventually turned into a cyst. it's been in my arm for years now, without any problems.

BUT, like others said, men do get breast cancer. you probably want to get it checked out. also it could be hormonal thing, or just an infection. lymph nodes do get infected from time to time. but any rate, get it checked.

might be a sist (cist) (sict), I don't know how to spell it. I have one on my shoulder blade. It is a small lump, I asked the docter he felt and said it was a sist with like two seconds. As long as it doesn't get bigger he said there is no need to dig it out. just my 2 cents.

I've got a lump in my ear lobe as well. Been there for about a month. Ah well, who needs an ear lobe, I'll just lop it off myself! ;). Nah, it's probably just a blocked gland or swollen lymph node. I hope it goes away soon.

I agree with the others. Get it looked at. If it is something serious, the sooner it's diagnosed, the beter. It's probably nothing though, so try not to worry too much :)

Good luck and keep us updated.
