There's one good thing about working in the corporate world

you eat well... VERY well.

Just tonight, I had team dinner and ended up going to an expensive steak house, got bottles of expensive wine, lobster bisque, awesome dessert, and having a good time socializing. All paid by the company or client.

I've been eating like this for the past year, just go out get hammered after work with co-workers and eat expensive food and expense it all.

Yup, they give me plenty for corporate dinners, usually more than I actually spend, and I get to keep the rest. :)

For me it's that plus the 200k Amex points I get through my corporate card. Oh and the platinum lounge access is money too.

Of course, you must all be "sales guys" that are producing, right? Probably, you're unmarried and drop whatever you're doing at the drop of a hat to go wherever and meet whomever The Company tells you to. It's nice when you're young, but later in life, stability and predictability is where it's at. I'd much rather be in my backyard with my family, grilling $40 worth of cheap steaks than to be eating a $500 meal at some trendy, way-marked-up restaurant with yet another whale client who stumbled off the plane and I have to pretend to be interested in. Been there, done that. Just me, though. YMMV.

I miss your old anti-marriage rants.

LOL! Oh, they are still there. I'm just old and burnt now and the rage now boils subdermally vs. all out in the atmosphere. Many days I often wonder WTH I got married. For the most part, it's good. My son is the great equalizer. If it was just me and my wife I'd have gone off the deep end by now. It's interesting and a bit sad at the same time: What happens when a guy who should've never married, gets married and finds that "It's OK....", not the hell of his former realationships, but FAR from the nirvana so many BS artists claim it is? It is truly The Great Experiment.

I often feel that Curious Eternals from other galaxies are watching me, furiously scribbling notes. o_O

Corporate dinners are great when you can get a vendor to pay for it. I just got back from a trip last week where the company paid for everything, including (a lot of) drinks.

I would never enjoy socializing with coworkers. Fuck, I hate that. (If they hate me too I really don't care, I don't try to pretend they are my friends).

I hate all of that shit, just give me a bigger bonus. There are very few people in the office I would actually like to go enjoy a nice dinner with and I doubt very many of them would like to go to the restaurant(s) I would want to go to.

This. Same goes for company picnics, parties, etc -- give me the money you would've spent on me and leave it at that.

Enjoy it while you can, in medicine we have lost all those perks. Pharmaceutical reps arent even allowed to give us pens anymore let alone lunch for listening to their travelling commercials. To top it off, if my employer doesnt pay for a business expense, alternate minimum tax takes away all employee business expenses. (still dont understand how that keeps the rich paying their taxes)

Hahaha, agreed. Just because we applied for jobs at the same time and our paths crossed at a place I don't really love working and spending a third of my life at, we're expected to be friends and converse during my personal time? I think not sir.
