My laptop was running really slowly probably b/c of all the sh!t that is on my college's network. So I formatted, and it's now a different computer. Ah, that is just grand.

Agreed! Except now I just try to keep it clean all the time, because I'm too lazy to put everything back where it is supposed to be after a format.

My desktop gets formatted every few months because I never defragment, and sh!t just piles up and accumulates.... Oh well, it's always nice to start clean except for having to re install all those programs that you need.

What does the network have to do with how your laptop runs?

Anyway, agreed with the "clean" feeling of a fresh format.

Yep, there's nothing like a reformat to leave you with that "clean" feeling. Of course, it doesn't always work out, like when I remembered that the copy of XP I had was illegitimate and I couldn't use it again....

I haven't reformatted my computer in a year and it runs almost as well as it did when I did. If you know how to properly use a computer, a format is rarely required. :)

That could be summed up even easier: Don't look at porn. :)

So true, I had a W2K install that lasted 3 years with out reformatting. I eventually installed XP, but it doesn't seem to be as rugged as 2K. I have had to reinstall twice now. (One time was from a dead HDD)

True, I just usually do it every 6-9 months to keep it fresh and get rid of extra crap.

The only reason to reformat regularly is if you install and remove a lot of stuff. I mean, the registry gets all screwed up and your drives fragment, but Crap Cleaner and other system cleaners do the job better than a format.

Then it wasn't clean to begin with! :D
