“I don’t want my kids to smoke marijuana, and I don’t want other people’s kids to smoke marijuana. I think there’s no responsible way to recreationally use marijuana.”

Marco Rubio

Rubio offered his opinions on the legalization of marijuana, calling it a “mind-altering substance” that “is not good for the country,” stating that it leaves the potential for substance abuse.
When Politics Confidential’s Jonathan Karl told Rubio that he would believe the senator if he were to say he didn’t use marijuana in the past, Rubio responded:
“Look, I understand that it’s a question that people today need to ask, but the bottom line is that I don’t think people should smoke marijuana.”

Politician expressing views on governmental legalization of marijuana. So moved this to P&N.

Doesn't matter what he thinks people should do. In free countries people are allowed to do things that other people may not necessarily like. You gotta let them do it because in the end that protects whatever idiotic thing it is that you like to do too.

I don't even smoke Cigarettes or Drink Alcohol. This is just one more drug that will cause people problems later. MJ accumulates in the body and builds up in the body over time. Even if you quit smoking it the effects may take over 6 months or longer to go away if you are using it daily.

Just give your kids heroine. They will probably die faster that way.

I don't want my kids to have sex so I think it needs to be illegal for everyone.

This sounds suspiciously like bullshit. What's your source for this claim?

What you're saying is incorrect, but it doesn't matter anyway. People do lots of things that will eventually give them problems for no reason other than the joy it brings them. That's their business. For instance, I can't understand why people would ever want to ride a motorcycle. If they have a wreck they're almost certain to die. I'm not about to vote for making motorcycles illegal though. Some people like it and it doesn't hurt me, so let 'em have their fun.

Haha, so he avoided answering the question as to whether or not he smoked pot in the past.. nice move.

Really?? Do you have proof of this? What are these effects that you are talking about? Do they really take 6 months or longer to go away?

This is funny because I just posted a news article about the FBI wanting to get rid of their policies that exclude hiring those hackers and techy people who smoke pot. Apparently they feel they are losing really good candidates for the jobs they need to be filled...lol

First of all, all of the research I've read indicates that THC can be stored in the cells for up to THREE months. For example:

http://www.gmu.edu/resources/facstaff/facultyfacts/1-2/grass.html

It takes a week to one month for all the chemicals from one marijuana cigarette to leave the body. As more marijuana is smoked, THC accumulates in the cells and the body is never drug free. When chronic users stop using marijuana, it takes about three months for the accumulation of THC to leave the body.

But the fact that there's THC in the cells doesn't mean that the associated SERUM levels of THC cause intoxication. In fact, almost all studies indicate that serum THC levels are very, very low within a few hours of taking the last puff, and become undetectable even in very heavy smokers within a day or two.

I recall some studies that found that chronic users who had smoked heavily every day for years took ~6 months to see the effects go away entirely. At the time this was great news for pot smokers because the idea that marijuana use caused permanent brain damage was still being bandied about by the opposition. It's actually quite a positive sign that they have backpedaled to using those same results as their evidence against pot smoking.

I'm pretty anti-drug myself...but do consider pot to be relatively safer than alcohol...but I agree that it's NOT for kids.

Marco Rubio is pandering to the fundamentalist righties.... nothing to see here. I am not fond of marijuana being legal but I look at it this way.... people will smoke it whether it is legal or not. It costs a helluva lot of money to stop it. There are worse things out there and if people want to be potheads as long as I do not have to support them... so be it.

that's utter horseshit. The residue will accumulate in fat deposits, like hair follicles, but THC is metabolized in a matter of hours. There are zero long-term, "build-up" effects or anything like that.

In fact, there is not build up at all. Once you hit a certain plateau while smoking/ingesting/whatever, you can't get any higher by introducing more into your system.

THC binds to specific receptors on the cell's membrane. Once the receptors are bound, they are bound. There is a quantifiable limit in terms of effective response.
