You have a linksys right? I believe Linksys uses the 192.1.x range.

IPv4 uses 4 octets, I don't know where you're getting 3 from

and netgear also uses 192.168.1.1

You guys stating that Linksys uses 'this' realize that you're referring to the default settings right? I do recall having some older Linksys gear that wouldn't allow a change in subnet but current Linksys gear that I'm aware of is at least configurable within Class "C" parameters.
