There's a sick/rabid possum in my garbage drum...

On my way home from work, GF calls me saying don't go near the garbage drums because there's a possum in there.

We live in Boston. This is a WTF for us. She says possums are nocturnal and based on how it looks lost and sick, it may be rabid.

Whatever the case I took out my 85mm f1.8 and took some pics despite my GF freaking out.

We've called animal service.

From my balcony.

Overcame my fears of it jumping on my face, a close-up. (damn, look at those claws)

Rabies in possums is very rare, most likely it's just stuck and cranky. But, you did the right thing by not taking any chances.

They are harmless, they just look scary. I found a small one in my backyard last year and had it sitting on my shoulder most of the afternoon. The adults are not going to attack you either. Just hold the trash can over so he can climb out and he will be on his way. If he won't come out of the can just leave it on it's side and go back in the house and let him be.
