There's a lizard in my apartment

I just got back from the grocery store. While opening the door, one of my cats tried to get out. While I was stopping him, I saw a small lizard run into the room. I tried gently pushing him to the door so I can let him out, but he ran under an endtable next to the wall. Anybody have an idea how to get him outside, instead of chasing him endlessly? There are lizards like this all over the outside of the apartment building, they're pretty fast.

I kept him, and my other cat, from getting out. The lizard disappeared from his hiding spot in the 3 minutes it took me to get onto AToT and post the first message, so I don't have any choice but to let the cats deal with it. At the very least, when they play with any insects or catepillars or what not in the house, they spend more time watching it than playing with it, so if they both start watching the lizard and doing nothing, I'll have another shot at evicting him from the apt.

Is it a little green anole? I used to have a few as pets. They're lightning fast. If you have any bugs, he'll take care of them while he's there, but it'd probably be really tough to catch him to scoot him out. Good luck.

I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. When it got in, the skin was kind of a light tan. I THINK the ones around here are usually green, so maybe it's a Chameleon? Anyway, except for the color, it looks like that green anole picture.

Yep, I've had one in the house for months. His(?) favorite hiding place is under my medical scale.

Anoles have the ability to change color like chameleon, so that's probably what it was. When my family went to Florida, they were all over the place, which was pretty neat.

Found my cats molesting the lizard. He was missing his tail, but I believe lizard tails are supposed to be removable. There was no blood anyway. I can't tell how injured he was, but he was still alive. I used the litter scoop to pick him up and dump him outside. He was still trying to stick to the scoop, so he's alive, I just don't know how well.

He, poor lizard. That reminds me of a Geico commerical where they are at an old lady's house and all her cats are staring at the lizard, licking their lips.

Anoles lose their tail when it's grabbed onto, I used to keep a few as pets. They can change from bright green to brown, almost a reddish color, very likely that's what it was. Cats do like playing with them, but not eating them for some reason. At least you got it out of the house alive, now he can go reproduce and spawn a whole new batch of home invaders :)

The lesson here is to check your door before opening it. Used to have all srts of anoles when I lived in Tampa, including the colorless ones with the blue eyes. I remember caulking up my sun porch and the little buggers were trying to knock it down. I had to stay out there until it set up.

Oh, and after I posted, I found the cats playing with the separated tail. They seemed to be as interested in that as they had been in the lizard itself. Needless to say, it is now residing in the trash.
