There's a dust storm sweeping through Phoenix...

This settles it, my next car is going to be painted beige.

The van was inside the carport, the cherokee was outside.

My corolla is beige. Doesn't make much difference.

I just hosed it off in the drive way. Not going to waste money on a car wash until after the monsoon season ends.

It looks quite a bit better now, it's not completely clean yet but the cleaner got most of it. In a day or two it should be back to normal.

Stupid question perhaps, but the the heck do you all do with all the dust on everything? I mean, at least snow melt and water eventually drains away or evaporates. Dust just sits there. If you all use blowers, it'll just fill the air and resettle. What to do?

They sweep it up, mix it with glue, and spray it on chicken wire to make new buildings.

From the news they said it was caused by a few thunderstorms converging. The cool air around them is forced down hard enough to kick up the dirt. They said this sandstorm was 2miles high and over a hundred wide.

Nope, sand storms happen normally in this area when there are thunder storms and things moving through. They don't normally get this bad though, this was a bit of a monster.

Sweep it up, hose it off, and pray for rain...

I've seen a few people in parking lots inadvertently spin their tires because the layer of dust cuts down on traction.

The video of it rolling in looks pretty biblical lol. That said, I can't help but laugh when I see some light dust coatings as the after-math. Having a swimming pool is the obvious big draw back, but seriously I'd take that over this..

That looks about like our standard winters. One year the snow on the roof of the house was almost touching the snow on the ground. Bigger buildings had drifts that would go like 10+ feet up against a wall, quite fun.

Newer homes in PHX or pretty well sealed, for other reasons like cooling efficiency.
When I lived out there I didn't own anything kept outside that couldn't be hosed off.
The fun part was finding out who's umbrellas were who's.

That's a good one. It looks like he turned off his camera and ran inside long before the dust wall got to him. I don't blame him, if you left a camera out in that you'd never get all of the dust out of it.

During monsoon season kicks in the rain can be extremely heavy, but often its very short lived. Rather than constant all day rains you might get 30 minutes of torrential rain.
