There will be no less than 5 Lego sets under the tree this year.

Yep. Benefits of having kids... Legos.

God I love those little over-priced pieces of plastic. And Amazon for having some really kickass sales on Lego sets.

5 Lego sets - 1 for each of the kids (minus the baby of course) and me, and then an additional Duplo set too.

5 kids? WTF? Didn't you ever figure out what caused that disease?

I hated legos as a parent. They absolutely suck when in the middle of the night or early morning, you walk through a room in the dark and step on them...matchbox cars too...:p

I've been looking for the black pearl at a good price, but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay $100.00 for legos.

Overpriced is an understatement. And so much of the stuff is specific to that particular kit. Mix it up with another kit and you'll never get Spongebob's house back together again. And tiny pieces too. I liked them as a kid, when it was one box of basic Lego shapes and you had to use your imagination.

I know my local Barnes & Noble has the Queen Anne's Revenge on the floor, coupled with the 40% off coupon and the member discount my wife has... makes it much more palatable.

I don't consider the Legos now to be the same as when I was a kid just 12 years ago. There were none of these specifically cast items or blocks. You had a bunch of different pieces and you could make whatever you wanted out of them.

That said, I think my parents have a rubbermaid box in storage somehwere full of my old legos that they're going to give to me when I have kids. It's a massive collection with no rhyme or reason. Kid wants to build something, he better do it on the fly without directions.

Anybody remember the lego-type pieces that were specifically made to look like real bricks? You could build a whole apartment building with them. I loved those.

Ah, I have fond memories of my legos days. I used to love the castle/knights sets the most. My favorite was this set:

I had that one too :D Is that the one that folds open, or am I thinking of a different one?

Ya I was a total legomaniac back in the day. We had a big wooden ammo crate full of legos that we would go through and piece together whatever we felt like that day. Toward the end I had a big castle and the aquanauts that my parents got me.

6 kids?

ATOT should start a collection to buy SunnyD a vasectomy...

5 kids bro. ATOT should start a collection for reading comprehension skills class for you.

And already got the vasectomy taken care of. But I'll take any donations and use them toward the Lego fund.

This was one of my favorites from when I was a kid

Yeah, I'd go over to my friend's house and we'd build huge-ass castles, then take stuff like the big monster tires from the Technics sets he had and chuck them at each other's castles as a "siege". Thing is, he always built the huge castles following the instructions, and they'd go down fast. Me - I'd improvise a small keep with double reinforced walls and shit. He'd end up knocking maybe a handful of the small decorative bricks off the top of my castles, while I'd leave gaping holes in his.

OK, as long as we also take out a collection for you to attend a writing seminar, friend.

What can I say, I'm a charitable guy :)
