Damn that was a sucky movie, I don't know why the Academy likes that kind of crap. Glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater anyways. The movie just recently started showing on Showtime. Aside from the great all around acting what is there to like at all about this movie? Uninteresting and dull as can be.

Also, I have no idea why the son tried to burn his father while he slept, that didn't make any sense.

No big surprise though, I often dislike movies that are nominated for Best Picture. Many exceptions of course, but I seem to dislike a high % of them. I thought this movie was quite bad though. I'm sure some will agree...but are there folks out there who really liked this movie? Explain yourselves :p

No, I agree with you. There are, however, many threads about this movie.

I guess the cinematography was great, which means, "If you were a movie expert, you'd like it." Oh well.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and don't care what the Academy or anyone else has to say about it.

I thought it went on for way too long. I got bored with what I thought was half-way, but it ended up being more like only a 1/4th of the way through it. So I just fast-forwarded through most of it to get the general idea. A decent concept, but overall just a boring movie.

DDL can make a movie about taking a shit into an Oscar contender.

I enjoyed it, though it was arguably overrated. I don't really see how one would find it boring - there's a lot going on and DDL is great in every scene (even if his performance is a bit of a John Huston ripoff).

Just saw it last night on Showtime. Coming to cable on showtime one undeniable clue.

I fully understand why so many of you here didn't like it.

Note that this does not mean I didn't like it, just that I hold OT's collective taste and attention span in deep contempt. ;)

the character was pretty awesome.

the ending is a bit lame though.

mostly its about the awesome mood/performance for most of the film.

I watched it. The blurb on the case was correct. It was art.
The problem is: Its not a movie.

If you're one of those pretentious cocks who thinks movies need to be art then you will like it.
If you are one those people who thinks movies should be entertainment, you will hate it.

I am part of the entertainment catergory. I gave it a 1/10 on IMDB.
Am already in Art History 102. Thats where I get my art. When I sit down to a movie I wanna be entertained. Thats why I've been pissed off since about 2000, maybe 2001. Most movies have sucked ass since then.

I am glad they tried something different with this movie. Its nice to see some new crap instead of the same old crap. And I'm also glad Daniel Day Lewis is keeping his skills in practice. Now he needs to go back to real movies and make us happy again.

Do you really need to call everyone who doesn't feel the same about a movie as you a "pretentious cock"?

Do you know what that makes you sound like?

I'd say this movie was more entertaining than most. Anyone who categorically hates it because it's "boring" is just revealing his own lack of an adult attention span IMO.

I loved the movie both times I saw it.

If I remember/understood correctly, it was because the son figured out that his father's "brother" was a phoney, but didn't know how to convey this to his dad. Something like that, I think.

God forbid our opinion doesn't match up with the Don's.

I liked this movie, along with PT Anderson's other movies. But I tend to like to character-based dramas
