There was someone here who didn't know what a sunburn was like, or "Don't think the sun is that bad for you?"

Fri 10am- Arrive at theme park

Fri 10:15pm- Sleep
Sat 1am- Wake up, almost vomit
Sat 1:30am- Wake up, almost vomit
Sat 2am- Wake up, almost vomit
(repeat 7 or 8 times more)
Sat 1pm- Wake up, take off shirt, hundreds of blisters, almost vomit at sight
Sat 2pm- Can't move, very nausious, dizzy
Sat 3pm- Watch "Patton", can't move
Sat 6pm- Feeling better, less nauseous, still in very bad pain but going insane for boredom, post on Anandtech.

Sun poisoning is not cool. Sucks being a fair skinned Irish.

Edit:

The blister in the thrid pick quintipuled in size in about an hour before it ruptured. I'm covered in gause right now because I don't want to get them infected.
Don't click that if you think it might freak you out.

SPF 60 is your friend. PICS!!!

Sunscreen does nothing for me. The last time I went out into the sun I had SPF 50 and a white shirt. I spent a week throwing up.

No pics because my motherboard is en route to Newegg for repair/replacement. I can't connect my camera.

good, cuz I don't think I want to see those blisters.

You have to keep reapplying sunblock every hour or so, especially if you're sweating or playing in the water.

Yeah, I used to use it all of the time. I applied it religiously. It never really did anything. I've gotten some of my worst burns, much worse than this, using SPF50 every 30 minutes.

You may want to consider limiting your time in the sun then. My dad got burned a lot lifeguarding when he was a teen and now has had several bouts with skin cancer.

If you *must* be in the sun, wear the highest SPF sunblock you can find, along with a shirt and hat.

Yeah, I didn't know we'd be there that long. I went with my roomate's family and I thought we'd only be there for 2 hours or so. I was wrong. 😛

I grew up in place where the average summer temp was 115 - 120F, occasionally hitting 127F ... as a result I'm burnt brown and never have to worry getting sunburnt 😀

You might want to consider using better sunblock. If it's old crusty stuff you found in your bathroom cabinet or cheap-ass ghetto-mart stock, then you could try going to Hawaiian Tropic or Banana Boat.

Personally, I find that SPF 15 has me covered for the whole day in the worst conditions (fishing for 8 hours in Baja)

If I'm just going to lay out for a couple hours, I usually use SPF2 or SPF4 tanning oil.

Strange part is, I'm Irish / Swedish / Japanese. My skin tone makes people think I'm Mexican. 😕

That's the most dangerous [long-term] side effect from frequent or even semi-frequent sunburns. Make sure you take steps to prevent sunburns in the future, especially if you're fair-skinned.

In the meantime, rest and feel better soon! 😉

damn, I've never heard of something that burns that easily! ouch.

Taken from one of my other posts in another thread (now I only sport a farmers/faux tan - IE tan everwhere that is visible with normal clothes on, white on the rest):

When I lived in Panama, I fell asleep in a hammock on the beach. It was located under a Bahio, and at the time the sun wasn't on me. As the sun moved across the sky, my back was exposed to the sun for 5 hours. I had been out in the sun all afternoon, so my body was already burned. When I woke up, I literally looked like a lobster. That night I couldn't sleep because the pain was so bad, and the next day the skin on my back, chest, stomach, face, and calves bubbled up. My upper layer of skin was lifted about 1cm off of the rest of my skin, and filled up wiht a yellow liquid. I couldn't wear a shirt for 7 days, nor could I sleep laying down (had to sleep in a chair). I went to one of my mothers friends, who was a military doctor, and he said that there was really nothing that could be done since I had waited 4 days until I saw him. I was covered in 2nd degree burns.

Then, one night as I was watching TV, my sister sliped and hit my back. THe skin ripped off, the yellow liquid draind out of my back, and it hurt like a mofo. The skin over the area where she hit me is now darkened/discolored, and the rest of my affected skin is covered in thousands of freckles. The next day I peeled all of the skin off - it was tough like leather, but didn't hurt. I had enough skin to cover a 3ft by 3ft. area.

Oh, did I mention that I have to go to a dermitologist (sp?) every 6 months so I can have my skin checked for any signs of skin cancer? 😉 Talk about fun!

I just went to the ocean on Thursday. I got fist and second degree burns.....missed work Friday and Saturday.
Went to the doctor and he prescribed me Percocet though.

EDIT go to the doctor dude, and get some drugs.

I haven't taken any pain killers. I've been spraying with Solarcaine and drinking fluids. I also took quite a bit of Vitamin E. I have some ibuprofien, and if it gets really bad, I have a Vicadin from my dental visit. I saved it for just such an occasion.

I'll be ok, I just don't think I can go into work tomorrow.

Speaking of sunburns, I've got a nice little one going on, nothing bad, just a little pink. Really need to get dark again, and I am a fair skinned Irish. 🙂
