There was a huge riot at my school

I nominate "Blurry Pic" to be the best picture in that series. Mainly for its inclusion with the rest of the pictures and it's title. 😛

so you took pictures of some police cars and a bunch of kids crowding around something we can't see

Everything went so fast and then we were in lockdown. Those were the best shots I could get.

What the hell is "in lockdown"? They have martial law at your school or something? I got out of the public-education circuit before things like metal detectors and regular locker dog-sniffing started to take place, thankfully. Otherwise I would have been a troublemaker bringing in giant metal washers in my underwear or something, just to set off the detectors every day. (I've heard of similar interesting pranks, involving lunch-meat left in lockers. Fun stuff to F- with "da man" with. "We don't need no education... We don't need no... self-control...")

Btw, those pics of the crowds of kids.. reminded me of a certain fri/sat night at the mall. One time, some cops came in and maced this kid and dragged him off. Apparently there was a fight that night or the night before that I didn't see, and this was part of the aftermath. I had to get out of the way, I was sitting on a bench at the mall near ground-zero when it happen.

lockdown = everyone getting inside classrooms, closing curtains, locking doors, etc.

So, like prison? Sounds like a formula for loyal students.

No, I had it in my school in NY as well (not in the city). It's for any sort of emergency. They locked us down on 9/11.

If my kids had to deal with that kind of life from day to day... our ass would be moving. Quick. Life is too short to deal with that kind of bullsh!t.

It seems like your keeping all the good shots and giving us all the ones that people didn't need to sign disclosures for.

Van Nuys has always been a slum. Even when I was a kid growing up in Granada Hills (70s and early 80s) Van Nuys was a place to avoid.

I recall an incedent at a nearby school where an Armenian student killed someone just because he was from Azerbaijan. His community celebrated him as a hero afterwards...
I didn't know that they have problems with Mexicans as well.
