I have to turn on the lights to use my DVD remote. Since I like the room dark when watching movies, it's a pain.
Every remote sold should have back lighting.
I love my Denon receiver remote. You pick it up and it lights up.
I have on older Sony Commander I could program but I don't really like it.
Or maybe I'll get a "Clapper".

My Harmony 880 lights up as soon as I pick it up. I think their cheaper ones do it too but I'm not sure.

My Harmony 688 has a glow button that I can press to make it light up. It's kind of annoying, but at least the option's there. It's better than turning the light on or accidentally pressing the wrong button.

I usually memorize my remotes, but it really depends on which one it is.

My Sony TV remotes are quite easy to memorize (having used Sony TV's from 1989 -> now)
But my Sharp TV is not that hard, JVC reciever is a pain

Here's a stupid remote feature: My PS3 remote has the damn "stop" button right under the "play" button. The "pause" button is under "stop". I would think you'd want "pause" right under "play", and "stop" somewhere out of the way so you don't accidently hit the damn thing and completely reset it back to the player's menu....like the PS3 does.
