I give you Lake Success, CA.

Notice how the lake surface is broken up into zones of different shades. Zoom in to notice that the boat wake and wave patterns cross these shading zones. So what is the cause of these color zones?

possibly thermoclines, the boundary between different temperatures of water. Imagine an upside down wedding cake with the tallest part of the cake near the dam.
The water can be divided into layers of different temperature, with sharp demarcations between them.

Isn't it an old mining quarry...? If so would that not be the edges of different levels of the mine...? Open type with tiered levels...? I know it has the point up above that says "Old success quarry" but could the area of where the lake is be the actual old quarry...?
