There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader

When I click on .pdf files in IE7 I get the following error message:

"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again."

When I click on OK in that dialog box I get the next error message:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

This has just started in the last few days, no new software has been installed. I have deleted Adobe reader and reinstalled, no change. I have looked up the problem in the adobe knowledge base and found one article that told me I had to use Adobe Customization Wizard 8. I downloaded that app and can't figure out how to use it, except that it is clear it is made for IT departments to customize installations of Reader and Acrobat. This is a single family computer with only Reader installed.

I have tried to look up the windows error in the Microsoft knowledge base without success. Can anyone out there help me or steer me to where I need to go?

Make sure all versions of Acrobat reader are uninstalled. Remove any Acrobat addins in IE 7. Then reboot and reinstall Acrobat reader 8.1. That should help.

IE 7 is the Vista of Internet Explorer, so expect more problems in the future.

Annon, I removed IE7 and went back to IE6. Now pdf's load without any problem. Thanks for the heads up on version 7. But now my only concern is will windows update automatically reinstall IE7 for me when I don't want it?

Don't allow windows to do auto updates, and when it trys to load IE7 uncheck it and it will not install.

IE 7 is not the specific problem, it has to do more with the Acrobat addins....I just don't happen to like IE 7.

Exactly. Lighter-Much faster to load and no annoying upgrade prompts.
