when people use light to paint, this is art
when people spend time in PS and make pictures totally different then what they started, art

black and white, is not always art
nor is sepia

can we some how come a solid conclusion as what is art and what is photography?
Sorry its just that i go to school with a bunch of people that claim that they are good photographers but there "photographs" are more art then anything

There is no definition for what constitutes art and what doesn't. The definition of art is subjective.

photography is an art

not everyone can take an amazing photograph with a camera
and not everyone can make an amazing graphic with photoshop

do what makes you happy and don't worry about definitions or other people's art 🙂

Photography is art.

And just like all other art, you have good art and bad art and everything in between.

Then you don't know many people in the art community.

Actually, I know probably around 100, um "artists" - online, that is - but I don't go around asking them if they consider photography an art.

The couple I have asked said "no". They also don't consider drawing, painting, etc. as "art". A group of us once had a discussion about this. The general consensus was that "art" is the pinnacle of a particular medium, and encompasses both creativity and craftsmanship. So, a particular photograph may be art, but by definition a photographer is not necessarily an artist. Kind of like just because you can scrawl a sonnet doesn't mean you are a poet.
