There hasn't been a single good album in the past 5 years!

Just kidding. I think there's just as much great music today as in the 70s, maybe more. It just isn't on the radio. What are some albums released in the past 5 years that you really enjoy? Just a few off the top of my head:

Dream Theater - Octavarium
Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side
Tool - 10,000 Days
Passion Pit - Manners
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet

Is anything I listed getting airtime? I haven't listened to the radio in about a decade, I'd have no idea if it was

Tool and Dream Theater might. Amon Amarth probably does a little in Europe.

And yes there is good music being made today, people are just too lazy to find it.

There is the problem. New music doesn't get airtime because so many stations just replay Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Eagles over and over and over.

im sure plenty of craptastic pop stations would disagree. as for me, i dont even turn the radio on anymore. i find music on pandora or get it from my brother because i like what he listens to (funk, blues, bluegrass, jazz, blah blah)

Agreed. Thanks to Clear Channel (and the one or two other companies running FM radio these days), the radio has become a piss-poor place to look for musical variety. I've been using the iTunes "Genius" feature to find new music, and haven't bothered with the radio for a few years now.

I like:

Steve Cole - True
Widespread Panic - Jackass-o-lantern

That's they only two that I think I've purchased and been happy with.

Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead

Thats pretty much it for albums as a whole. I was however pleasantly surprised with Marilyn Mansons newest album, but I most folks wouldn't call it "a good album". I just happen to like that kind of music.

There isn't a single thing on Billboards "top 10 rock albums" that I actually like, nor would consider good. My wife does enjoy the Twilight soundtrack though.

The top 10 singles rock chart has Mudvayne in it. I used to like Mudvayne, haven't heard they even had anything new out.

Hmm lets see who is in the top 200 - top 10 of that all around list.

Jonas Brothers - preteen girl fodder <shudder>
Black eyed peas, dave matthews band, Eminem, Lady gaga - well maybe high school kids now
Soundtrack to Hannah Montana, Green Day, and Taylor Swift.

I think I'm just old now (30). Damn.

We have 1 rock station now. A couple of "classic rock ones," but that was our only alternative. :(
