Chadbourn, NC, Ponchatoula, LA, Watsonville, CA and Stilwell, OK are all Strawberry Captials of the World?!?!

HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!?!?!

At least Plant City, FL is the only Winter Strawberry Capital of the World.. so their yearly "Strawberry Festival" isn't tainted by a potential misnomer.

Beardstown, IL and Hope, AR are both Watermelon Capitals, but there's only one Watermelon Capital of the World, and that's Cordele, GA. Where the "Watermelon Capital Speedway" is.

Ok. I'm thinking Ponchatoula. The strawberries on the fire trucks do it for me.

It's Watsonville. I grew up there - it's a city surrounded entirely by strawberry fields. Even though I've moved away, every time I get strawberries from the grocery store, I look at the address on the label - almost all of them come out of Watsonville.

Strawberries on fire truks don't mean anything. Go to the grocery store, look at the fruit, and tell me where it came from.

That would make sense, actually. In California they grow year round.

That's why Plant City is the "Winter Strawberry Capital of the World" because, although the entire city is noting but strawberry fields surrounded by strawberry fields, they only grow during the winter time... but MAN are they HUGE! Way bigger than the California ones you get at the grocery store.

Huge ones don't taste as good. They're basically just watered down small strawberries. The berries absorb more water but don't produce any more sugar, and aren't as sweet.

I still like them better. It's a texture thing.

It's like; I like the little cherry tomatoes and not full size tomatoes. It's a texture thing.
