Nah, that would be too easy. I think we have to blame it on "society", and "da man".
These folks are actually victims, themselves.

I dont give a shiznit what race/ethnicity/Amd vs Intel preference any person is, if they commit a crime, then give them the punishment, if you ever even think about treating them differently to try to "Even things up" you will be in a much worse situation than when you started.

daveman, yeah, I agree.

There are more minorities in worse neighborhoods and, coincidentally, people in worse neighborhoods are more likely to find themselves in jail than people who live in the suburbs or nice neighborhoods. Perhaps a study should be done as to the % of minorities who come from poor neighborhoods that go to jail vs the % of whites who are from poor neighborhoods that go to jail. I have a funny feeling that it would be about equal.

It's just a lot of poeple who are minorities are in our prison system. It does not necessarily mean that minorities commit more crimes... it's just that the difference that segregate the white race and the minorities...

The white people have different ways to get out of things... if they're richer then they'd have better lawyers, etc, thereby, they'd have a better chance of escaping jail time

The minorities ... statistically show that they are poorer... and therby not having the same ... you get the point =)

Yes. They all belong to the "criminal" race. ;)

How much longer before TripleSquat and BoogerMan come out and tearfully proclaim that these individuals need more opportunities, more money given to them, and more time with Oprah to be on equal footing with other members of the community?

Amish

LOL, I was wondering the same thing.

It doesn't seem to be about minorities. The hispanics are right on target and they're a minorty at 13%. The prison population roughly matches their percentage of the whole population. So you can't say it's a biased justice system against minorities in general. I bet the asian prison percentage is pretty small as well, and they're a minority.

That would be an interesting study. But I don't care what neighborhood you come from you still know right from wrong.

Think about this.

We are all minoritys. The only majority is the HUMAN race.

Treat others with respect and you will get it back in return.

basically I said that different punishments for different races, and if they want equal whites and blacks then make whites have a harsher punishment (The guy who used his school computers to work on the rc5 project may get something like 5 years in jail) and let blacks have an easier punishment (OJ Simpsons murdering his wife and getting off free)..

oh well, a good joke, maybe put badly...

I used to think there were mostly miniorities in prison, until the OJ trial then I realized that prisons are populated be poor people of all races. Just that there are more poor miniorities.

Why the hell do they never consider economic influences in these figures? I think if they did there wouldn't be a story to write about. Correlation and causality, obviously some folks need to understand this relationship.

Capn: a question could be asked, is it being poor that causes crime, or is it crime that causes poor? The 2nd sounds wrong until you think about it.. if you are raised in a crime ridden family then chances are at least one of your parents will be put in jail and thus lowering your earning potential... While it may or may not be true today, the question is did a trend of crime help create the poor (a question that would have to go back thousands of years to be anwered)...

Just a weird question...
