I bought a brand spankin new Sanyo SCP4900 back around Thanksgiving. While in a salvage yard in St. Louis I dropped it. That was the second week of December.

Calling the yard after arriving home and even going by there on the following Monday was futile. :(

Called Sprint and reported it stolen and was going to cancel my service.;)

Sprint gave me free month and $150 bucks for a new phone. The 4900 is by far the best phone I've ever laid eyes on so another was purchased.

Three days ago I got a call from someone telling me his nephew had found the phone and over time realised it belonged to someone and decided, with coaxing, to return it......came in the mail this day! It even still has a charge and the case is still on it.

I'm going to send the 15 year old a small reward and a note of thanks and pay his aunt for the postage.

There ARE indeed still honest folks about!

What a touching story of honesty. Gives hope in this crappy world of consumerism and hedonistic mentality.

Yeah, but notice that the adult was the one who was honest and the youngster probably wouldn't have returned it on his own. "over time" and "coaxing" being the key words. Maybe the kid should have posted his moral dilema here on ATOT. ;) Not to slight the kid, but it does seem that ethics have been slipping and becoming more "flexible" with each generation. At least you got your phone back.

Based on what I've seen here on ATOT, I don't think a lot of people posting here would have been so honest. Give that kid a pat on the back for me!

You can't know that, and 15 year old kids ought to have a responsible adult around to give them guidance.

Why look for the dark cloud inside the silver lining ?

Speaking of honest people, good job calling Sprint and reporting your lost cell phone as stolen. ;) Heh, dude, you lost it, why should they take a hit for you dropping it in a salvage yard?

Anyway, whatever, it's no skin off my back and I wouldn't have said anything if that wasn't noted in a thread entitled "There are honest people!..."

Of course there are honest people... if there wasn't a few here or there the world would turn to sh!t just like that...

Unfortunately people who find things assume that finders = keepers... when in reality, finders = greedy bastard losers who can't give something back that isn't rightfully theirs (at least in cases where they CAN get info on how to return things)

That's my outlook... it's very good to hear that you're going to go out of your way to make sure that honesty was the right choice! :)

According to Sprint one call was made on the Saturday I lost it. The call was placed in the PM. I noticed it gone in the AM. Stolen, not lost.;)

Hrm, fair enough. More like lost and, while not returned immediately, one call was stolen...but oh well. :p Just thought it was ironic.

But yeah, nice to see you got your phone back.

According to Sprint lost or stolen means GONE. They report the ESN# on the phone as unusable and therefore it cannot be used.

However, I will get them to take it off the list and give it to my son. I will not resell it....

A month ago, I found a phone in the bus and returned it to the rightful owner......

Yesterday, I found 25 bucks on the ground that someone dropped. Caught up with him and returned it to him. :)

I don't know if you can take it off a black list after you have reported it. At the very least, it's a fancy pocket watch :)
