"There are....FOUR....LIGHTS!"

At the end of said episode, I couldn't tell if he was supposed to be a broken man or mentally handicapped.

I've been watching the afternoon episodes like crazy and still haven't come across that one yet. What's it called?

Star Trek, The Next Generation. Cpt. Picard is captured during an away mission (by Kardaisans?) and tortured until his release can be arranged. The captor methodically tries to convince him that there were X lights, while there were actually Y, as a means to make him question his reality.

For those that don't know the reference in that Star Trek episode, there is a part of Orwell's "1984" where a guys is tortured until he agrees with the party.

" How many fingers am I holding up, Winston ? "

" Four. "

" And if the party says that it is not four but five - then how many ? "

" Four. "

The word ended in a gasp of pain.

Does anyone know if "Frame of Mind" is based off of a book the way "Chain of Command" is based of 1984? Similar episode, Riker is put through a series of alternate realities to make him question his own sanity.

poll added! some folks recalled the line from 1984, some from the star trek episode. which one came to your mind first? now w/poell

this reminds me of a Photoshop tutorial where there were four lens flares in each corner of a square canvas, background black.

😀
