Do a search people :X, I'm sure its just the same information over and over. I'm also sure most of you have decent AMD rigs and have no reason to buy a Conroe.
 
I have an AMD rig but (am2 3800+ and abit ab9) and it runs slower than my old s754 rig. Conroe here i come!
 
I'm sure if you searched, there'd be a couple threads like this one ;D

Anyway, Conroe is one of the biggest jumps in CPU performance in... a long ass time.
Understandable there would be so much discussion/hype/redundancy.

But is it worth the thousand dollars per chip? I think not.
No chip is worth that, and if I bought one it better be making me breakfast in the morning.
Some of these kids have some deep pockets.

Well I read through most of those Conroe threads and many more articles/threads away from AT, but still decided to go AMD 😀
 
I have an AMD rig

but it's getting old single core and an X800XL with a gig of ram the only reason I didn't get dual core X2/Opteron because it wouldn't give me a performance increase in gaming as i've heard a 3800X2 compares to a 3000+ single core AMD64. Conroe gives performance increase for gaming and multi-tasking.

I don't think that's really a valid argument...kind of like saying 10 years ago that "if you have a decent Pentium-1 system there's no reason to buy a Pentium-2", or even "if you have a decent Athlon64 system, there's no reason to buy an X2". Sure, most of us have "decent" systems by the standards of the day, but those standards constantly change, and Conroe opens up a new level of performance that previously was not accessible using any of the easily available hardware (even with overclocking, or overclocking + exotic cooling), and for many of us with "decent" systems, that's reason enough to upgrade right there, because as soon as the powers that be decide to review the standards of the day in the wake of Conroe, our "decent" PC's will all be decidedly low-end.

You can't fault people for being enthusiastic about getting their PC's to perform better just because you don't think it's necessary.

They were listed as just over 1000 a little while ago in an article I read online. Maybe a few weeks ago before the big price drop. I'm just repeating what I read.
I'll stick with amd anyway, because if everyone went with intel, we'd have another micro$oft type monopoly and everyone would be forced to use thier products.

EDIT: My bad. I was thinking of the PPXE intels here not the conroe:

The only one that comes close is the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800, and as far as i remember, it was always listed as $999 for msrp. The rest are WELL below.

Good luck sticking with amd, cause we wouldnt want another microsoft monopoly.😕

Searching is fine for some people. But it takes time and a bit of effort. :roll:
It's far easier to just crank up a new thread.
Besides, using a different DVD drive makes the whole setup different than all the others... Right? :laugh:

 
care to make a wager on just how much "amd" stuff fills these forum corridors?

New products will of course generate large interest and issues.
