If I hadn't posted in This Thread, would the existing replies be exactly identical as they are now? Or did my response actually create the path for the future and forever modify the results of the thread?

Would any questions have overlapped on the original path of the thread had I not posted?

 
I would argue that all replies to a thread existed when the thread was posted even if the reply hasn't been posted yet.
 
I would recommend linking at least to the page with your post on it, and then maybe give directions like "xx post from the bottom of the link"

I would assume no, your post didn't matter
