THEORETICAL thread about the draft

Okay, so let's say there was a military draft imposed tomorrow. Are police officers and other peace officers of the law exempt from it? I can't imagine that the SSS would pull those protecting public safety and ship them out to a foreign country, but I could be wrong.

I know that some essential postions (emergency room docs, etc.) can get out of a draft and that college is no longer an excuse to avoid being drafted, but are police officers subject to it?

So what happens if a small town has three of their rookie deputies drafted, which basically cuts their police force by 1/2?

I'm not asking YOU personally, but does the SSS take stuff like this into consideration?

it doesnt matter. if we get to the point where we need a draft, everyones gonna die anyways.

This page goes in to greater detail on who is and isn't eligible for the draft. It mentions nothing of police officers. There is an appeal board, but from what I've read it is highly doubtful that one would be declared ineligible for the draft because they were a police officer.

The only way you will really know the answer to this question is to write the Selective Service board and ask them. IMO a police officer would not be ruled exempt unless they fit one of the criteria listed on that page.
