I am sure nvidia would want into x86 market after their losses in the tegra department and the less-than-stellar WinRT sales performance

They should do an even trade for PhysX rights. :sneaky:

I don't know. AMD is the enemy when it comes to graphics but, I believe, their CPU division is something nVidia would like to work with. What say you?

What if Nvidia commissioned AMD to make a custom apu but with nvidia IP?
It is possible, but does not make sense. The only thing that AMD have, and NV can't licence is the x86/x64. But Nvidia already designed the Maxwell to ARMv8 architecture, so the unified virtual memory support won't work with x64 cores. They need to re-design it, but they can't do that without x86/x64 licence.

why would AMD build processor that could cut their own sales ?
if nvidia want x86 their only option probably only VIA
wouldn't they be be getting a decent share if the product is sucessful or
maybe the could have some kind of cross promotional agreement.

That part makes sense, sure. AMD have no incentive to help NVidia out. But NVidia chased after an x86 license for a long time.

speaking strategically[maybe a bit naively] but wouldn't the benefit be MOAR competition against intel from above meanwhile they[arm and co.] also attack them from below -toppling the giant...shadow of the colossus style.

Working with NVidia gives them nothing they don't already have. Instead of getting 100% of the revenue from the chip, they get 50% and their biggest competitor in graphics gets 50%. Name one product they can make in collaboration with NVidia that they can't already make alone.

Agreed that it's an interesting idea, but probably a non-starter. Nvidia didn't have the foresight to see that Intel were their real competitors until it was too late. Sure they could retaliate by getting into x86 via AMD, but what does AMD have to gain?

wouldn't they will occupy the same market share ?
if current amd cpu is deemed not competitive enough with intel
where will that put nvidia branded amd cpu ?

spit balling here:

they'd have a big another big name customer on their list following MS and Sony. Also every sale nv would make amd would be getting a cut.

Slight possibility that nv might join hsa foundation and use their abnormally beefy marketing powers to help promote it.

a "brother-in-arms" against intel[and the rest of the arm crew].

cross licensing agreements?

possible revenue from niche areas that amd doesnt address...

it wont be amd branded but nv branded and nvidia "seems" to have better relationships with pc oems than AMD does. Also I don't think the reason amd has been pushed back this far is due to their relatively underperforming cpu, it has always been the oems that controlled the fate of these chip makers.

What do you think game console cpus/gpus do? They eat into pc gpu sales by way of eating into pc sales.

They let AMD sell to a market which they would not be able to if they did not make that product. Games consoles will exist regardless of whether AMD wants to play ball or not. What product would teaming up with NVidia let them make which they cannot make alone?

i believe i say nvidia branded in my post :p
oem only care about profit
so until AMD product can give more profit/lowering their cost
oem will keep their current business model

console serve different market

Not the same, but strangely enough, I have a name-brand AMD desktop with an integrated nVidia GPU. This machine was built long after AMD bought ATI.

You may be confused. You're saying you have an AMD processor with an integrated Nvidia GPU.

I think you mean there is a discrete Nvidia GPU.

Nforce chipset. Loved the Nforce 2 with sound storm audio and Nvidia onboard graphics. I believe that was one of the first breakthroughs in performance with IGP.
