Throw your hands in the air if you love people outside the US saying people in the US shouldn't complain about gas because they have voted their own taxes so damned high that they pay way more for gas.

I always found it odd how the biggest complainers of gas prices are Americans. They are the ones with the cheapest prices.

What does piss me off about gas prices is the fact that in this day and age we are still stuck relying on gas. Screw patents and all that bullshit, let's see some alternative energy products on the market. There should be a law where if a patent is not implemented within a month it goes public, and a year after it goes public regardless so more than one person can implement it. Screw the oil industry and their monopoly. The patent system is nothing but a system that encourages monopoly, and this has been seen greatly in the energy industry.

Gas prices should work on a tiered system. If you make less the $50k a year, gas should be free.

Let the people that can afford to pay for high gas prices do so. If someone makes 10 million a year, they can afford to pay $100 a gallon to support the lower and middle class.

I take it you live in Austin?

taxes don't drive gas prices...over supply does.

Agreed...but taxes DO drive high prices, otherwise, why is the US paying less than $4/gallon while most of Europe is paying around $9/gallon? The price for oil is about the same...

As much as I love cars, even if strictly for the mechanical marvel that most take for granted, I'd be all for a return to horseback. They served man loyally for thousands of years, and the lazy idiots couldn't be bothered to saddle one up to go anywhere which alone is worth it to me.

I suppose it helps that I grew up around them, but as it stands now I will enjoy my horribly inefficient and terribly fun to drive automobile. On the off-chance that we return to horseback though, I'll be the guy in the Clint Eastwood 'man with no name' poncho.

Please explain to me why it is that if I make more than you I should pay more for the exact same service/widget? What bass ackwards logic is that? Then why would I want to make more than 10/hr? That totally undermines competition among other things... You must be On TeH CraCk!

Camping this week - an afternoon of tubing and water skiing sucks down the gas. I'll probably spend a total of $700 on gasoline this week.

and a good chunk of that oil is ours. In essence Canadians are subsidising your lower gas prices :'(

was
past tense
once you sell the oil to us, it's no longer yours :)

Also, our prices are lower relative to you only because our federal government doesn't charge the same kind of sales tax on the gas, instead, they find other ways to tax us.
