No Z170 yet for this thread, but for the remaining Newegg stock of Z87 and Z97.......

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627 600438202 600438204 600491547 4814 8000&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&order=PRICE&page=1

My pick is the ASUS Z97-E/usb 3.1 for $69.99 AR free shipping (ATX board):

(With used i7 4770K processors about the price of a new i5 6600K, I feel this older platform is still viable. Furthemore, this ASUS board also has a PCIe 3.0 x 4 M.2 (M key) SSD slot)

Most older platforms are viable as imho CPU speed, memory speed, has sorta dropped off. Moores law doesnt apply anymore. Chip mfgrs have to use different methods nowadays to gain advantages. I have several old spare AMD systems that game and perform just fine with newer videocards and SSD's.

One system that still rocks it out is a AMD Phenom II X4 955 overclocked and paired with two SSd's and a GTX 770. If you arent going for 4K gaming and such. 1080p is easy.

So yeah great way to get a great system and upgrade to a better videocard with the $$$ saved by using the above board an older CPU.

Actually the specs say:
  • 10Gb/s M.2 Socket 3
Which implies it's a PCI-e 2.0 x2 M.2 slot, as are most of the Z97 M.2 slots to my knowledge.

With two native PCI Express 2.0 bandwidth, M.2 supports up to 10Gbit/s data-transfer speeds.
