our local walmart is confirmed to get only 4.
the two closest walmarts to that are confirmed getting 4 a piece as well
so 6 decent units and 6 ghetto units all told.

apparently people have been getting a not from retailers saying no 360 til jan 21st(for certain preorders)

looks like it will be a sell out :)

Does this surprise you? Just about every system launch is like that.

It's probably not intentional (it does take time to make the things), but I'm sure companies don't mind the hype created by a shortage at launch.

4 per store? thats a bit surprising.

I thought I've heard of stores like EBX and Gamestop getting 25-50... maybe Microsoft is trying to stick it to Walmart? :)
(I heard that on another forum from someone whose husband works for one of the above stores)

Well, Walmart did start selling that crappy Lindows thing to try to undercut all of the other computer retailers. Maybe this is revenge?

It's supposedly intentional:

Linky

MS wants to ensure they "sellout" at launch time.

Hmm, we'll have to see.

Wal-Mart signed a contract with Microsoft to get a certain allocation. I don't recall if it said how much, but its was a large perecentage of the total amount of them.

Where do you live exactly? Could be that games don't sell so well in your neck of the woods and thus Wal-Mart has allocated more to other places.

Wait a few months for anything technological and their prices will drop.

Hmm. Any large cities very close to you?

I'll see if I can't find out how many we're supposed to get around here.

Hopefully there won't be a shortage, at least around where I live. I'd love it if it panned out like the PSP launch where they expected to sell a lot around here and only like one person showed up for the launch.

Yep. I've got three on preorder for launch day for that very reason.

no large cities within an hour.albany and springfield are the largest two and they are both roughly the same distance from me.
