I am building my first system. I narrowed by choices between the Xstacy X850 XT PCI Express or the EVGA 6800 Ultra . Any input would be nice. Which is better?

Just don't get the X800Pro- they never really caught on, too slow.

LOL already did. It seems to perform better then the 6800 GT accoridng to benchmarks. So I went for it. I know not having those pipes will be a problem for future games.

Errr....ooops...sorry about that.

Anyway, this choice comes down to what is more important to you? A little faster on some games, or the possibility to go SLI, and a newer feature set?

x800PRO isnt THAT bad but its pointless when the 6800GT is better, not even the x850 pro can compete, I think x800pros are selling @ 300 now. Which isnt bad for an agp card, espiecialy if its vivo, good deal if you ask me. I doubt the 600nu can beat the x800pro at that pice. 🙂

No problem. I knew it wasn't a smart decision for long term. But I'm gonna a next gen card anyway.

SLI is was to expensive. And one card is gonna heat up a lot. A PCI slot in the middle of the PCIe slots would be nice so you can install a PCI fan.

You see I have a brand new Vision Tek X850 XT. My friend is a Manager at Compusa and he gave it to me for $264.00 dollars. I was thinking about selling it and getting a 6800 Ultra because I like there software options. What would you do?

What about the shader model 3.0 that nvidia supports?

My rig
AMD 64 3500 939
Asus A8V-E Deluxe
Lite-on DVD-RW
Seagate 160 gig HD
Twinx Corsair 2x512 PC 4400C2
X850 XT or 6800 Ultra
X-Connect 500w PSU
Thermaltake venus 12 cu
Antec Super Lanboy

You cant compair a x800 range non dx9c non P.S 3.0 non hardware HDR (ok not fully used in new games for while but will be)

You cant then compair a new out x850 to 10month old nvidias its unfair, you need wait on new nvidia cards soon, prob april, it be totally noobish to buy a x800 now unless your happy not having a dx9c card this late in the game.

Can someone tell me is the x800 range is fully dx9c and P.S 3.0 and does it use real HDr or softwarre mode of P.S 2.0 like the x800 range does.

Considering a 400 to 425mhz core and 1000 to 1100 mem a 6800 U is till king of the agps

Get a ultra E if you want to boast about on paper raw power not real life use.

See even at well lower core than the top x800 model its still faster with 38.4GB/s out the box.

the X850 is the better card.. Especially for $264! Keep it, also the 6800s have more problems, run hotter, and are actually usually slower in most benchmarks, ie directX games.

Lol !!!! It's a guy that offered to trade me his X800 Pro AGP for my brand new X850 Xt PCI Express. I laughed in the guys face. He must think I am a idiot.

Which are the best 6800 Ultra card makers?

Most of 'em are good as far as I know; PNY and XFX are the ones I've heard to avoid, although I put an XFX in my room mate's computer and it's been running fine since last fall.

I really don't see why you want to go through the haslte of selling your brand new card and buying a new one. The 6800 ultra is a good card, but unless Doom3 is the game you play alot, keep the x850xt.

I say it again YOU CANT compair a new ati x850 to a 6800 card its 10months old tech.

But if it runs the games faster, you think users care if it's old tech or not?

Keep the card especially given the price you got. In fact in 6 months sell it for $250 and buy a new generation card like R520 by simply adding additional $250. It's like your x850xt wont even lose its value given the price you got on it.
