fine after reading that again he does not hate other metal types like i thought he did

the problem with black metal and such is that it is often hard to understand what is even going on and sounds nothing more than random guitar and screaming.

maybe there are some decent bands other there that are not the same spamming crap.

For me Classical but CCM is a close second

Without classical, most modern films would lack a soundtrack. Classical music will never gonna go out of style.

Classical is the best genre followed distantly by jazz. The worst genres lack easily discernable theme, harmony, direction, variation in emotion, and talent.

Drum and bass is low on my list as is gangster rap and shouty metal that lacks discernable lyrics and tone.

I'm exposed to it on a daily basis (my son's a huge fan and pollutes my radio presets with those stations). I can't stand the stuff, and I stand by my statement- it's missing harmony and melody, so therefore in an academic sense it is not music.

I guess I just miss the time when people actually had to know how to play an instrument and understand things like keys and scales to record anything.

You can't just deny the existence of something because you dislike it. :D You sound like my Mother when I used to blast my punk and metal records as a kid; "that's not music, it's just noise"! :D

To me, jazz fusion/"smooth jazz" is probably the most soulless, uninspired genre of music. No emotion behind it whatsoever.

Indie rock, particularly of the lo-fi, two-chord, college-kid-strumming-his-guitar-singing-about-his-favorite-pair-of-socks-on-a-park-bench kind of indie rock. See also: "twee pop". Beat Happening is a great example of everything I hate in music.

Jazz fusion and smooth jazz aren't the same thing at all.

Smooth jazz (admittedly a highly-maligned example that jazz fans may not even consider jazz)
Jazz fusion

I hate, absolutely hate Country or any hybrid of it, folk, bluegrass, christian, most pop and basically anything along those lines. I only seem to like things like death metal, rock and the blurs that follow those genre's along with smooth jazz providing there is no vocals and Ambient mood music when I want to relax.

Rap is extremely iffy for me, usually it's the lyrics I hate...not into all that immature gang crap or booty sex lyrics. I can do some Kotten Mouth Kings songs and a few hit and miss from others. Typically only played when in my car since I have subs. I also like some 80's songs that I didn't used to back then, like Sting/Police or Colins/Genesis.
I generally don't like bluegrass, but I own the "O Brother Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (and its spin-off: "Down from the Mountain") because it is phenomenal.

Pop Country. Not to be confused with actual bluegrass or other more legitimate genres.

It's everything that is terrible about pop, but add:

Even less creativity/variety (even though that seems unpossible)
Horrible, obnoxious lyrics, usually pandering to drunken religious inbreds.
Terrible singing that grates on the nerves, usually with a mix of 'help I'm being raped by a hyena' vibrato, awkward sustains, and otherwise general testicle-shriveling croons.
Everything else that is bad in the world.

Anything that includes "artists" whose name starts with "Lil", whose "lyrics" include anything about rims, or whose videos have an abundance of pit bulls with massive chains around their necks. I guess that narrows it down some.

My vote goes to Kidz Bop Kids. Take the shitty pop music you hear on radio and have kids sing them...

Someone said 'hip hop' earlier in the thread, but I didn't feel like addressing how horribly wrong that is. Like them or not, things defined as 'hip hop' generally fit the definition of 'music' and can be decent.

Stuff like the above, whatever the hell they're calling it now, is certainly what that poster intended to name. I call it 'retard rap,' because it...well, it sounds like it was made by retards. Extreme amounts of repetition, with any attempt at an actual 'verse' coming at you like a freight train full of lyrical molasses. It's...so...slow...like a freestyle where some dude is...thinking really hard...trying to find words...unh...unh...unh...fill the gaps with grunts and...make up a word when I have to...unh...unh...unh...kazizzles.

And the music sounds like it was made in some generic consumer-level Windows 'make your own beats' software. By a six-year-old.

Stuff like the above is also what I meant by hood rat gangster shit. I don't know what else to call it, because it isn't hip hop and it isn't r&b even if that's what it is often sold as.

Rap.
All of the artists
All of the songs
Take your pick. It is bad poetry to a beat, not music.

Jazz for me. Something about the sound that bores me to death. Oh I know why... it's hold music.

Sounds like you've never heard jazz. If I got that kind of hold music, I'd use CS as my mp3 player.

Youtube has hours of it that you can just leave running in the background and I verified before making that comment.
