Christian music by definition is the worst. Since its definition is the dredges of music with find replace "Jesus" on the lyrics to make gullible people buy it. If it was good music, it would just be a different genre with a religious tone.

Actually, almost all the people I know listen to classical music. Even the ones that knows it only from Bugs Bunny

there are so many songs that people actually know about but they do not realize they do

many get sampled in movies and tv shows

Rap and rap-like music is alright as a one-off song, or a niche sub-genre, but it's incomprehensible to me that it's as big as it is. I hate rap, but I'll at least give them credit for sometimes doing interesting things. Contemporary Christian music wouldn't know interesting if it kicked them in the balls, though it's an experiment I'd like to try. In the name of science of course ;^)

I dunno, maybe when I was younger I would limit myself to certain genres, but now I dont care. In my collection I have everything from classical and bossa nova to Indian and Middle Eastern inspired music, and everything in between. Strangely enough, I think the sampling in Hip Hop opened me up other types of music that I wouldnt have normally heard. Once you make the leap from Tribe Called Quest to Bob Dylan, everything is fair game.

+1

some middle eastern and indian music is really good

also despite what some people say when gaddafi is brought up at least some of flamenco music is also good. never seen the dancing although

I hate, absolutely hate Country or any hybrid of it, folk, bluegrass, christian, most pop and basically anything along those lines. I only seem to like things like death metal, rock and the blurs that follow those genre's along with smooth jazz providing there is no vocals and Ambient mood music when I want to relax.

Rap is extremely iffy for me, usually it's the lyrics I hate...not into all that immature gang crap or booty sex lyrics. I can do some Kotten Mouth Kings songs and a few hit and miss from others. Typically only played when in my car since I have subs. I also like some 80's songs that I didn't used to back then, like Sting/Police or Colins/Genesis.

CCM = Christian Contemporary Music

Have you people never heard of google?

Or you can stop being a lazy fuck and use your keyboard. You can't start a discussion and expect everyone to research your arcane acronyms.

At least Faith + 1 is a legit band.

you can do that

You most certainly can do that and I just have to imagine Fritzo has not been exposed to much in the way of rap or hip-hop. That's fine, not everybody needs to like everything, but saying it is not music is just silly.

fuck the sub genre's. I know what I like. And godsmack's a tool anyway, who cares. Not going to listen to viking metal, gay metal or whatever the heck sub genre's you want to divide them all into, I'll just listen to exactly what I like even if it's on a per song basis.

Prior to yesterday I would have said Rap or "New Country". Last night I was sitting in a taqueria trying to enjoy my chile relleno and tamal. They had Salsa playing on a satellite channel quite loudly and by the time I was finished I was glad to get out of there. Every song on that played while I was there sounded more or less the same. Same obnoxious horn section, same piano being banged on, same conga being wailed away on, same guy yelling at the top of his lungs in Spanish, same beat. Its so interchangeable. Thought maybe it was just that satellite channel until I saw the Chase Sapphire "Little Havana" commercial watching TV later.

I'm exposed to it on a daily basis (my son's a huge fan and pollutes my radio presets with those stations). I can't stand the stuff, and I stand by my statement- it's missing harmony and melody, so therefore in an academic sense it is not music.

I guess I just miss the time when people actually had to know how to play an instrument and understand things like keys and scales to record anything.
