the WORST F'ING annoyance, worse than pop-unders

OK, now there's this trend of using DIV layers to pop up ads.. and a lot of them provide no way to close them. I just went to aspfree.com to look up some example code, and lo and behold.. a Dell ad pops up as a layer, with no way to get rid of it.. and it's blocking the article I want to read. How about that stupid layer that scrolls horizontally to the middle of the page, and it has the balloons & sh_t in there, saying you won something.. I see that one a lot, and I despise it

This pisses me off.. this is worse than spam. (maybe) I'm trying to access information and it's being blocked. ARRGH!! We need to do something about this... this has gone too far now

Try going here and using this. I do and while looking around that site it was clean and ad free.

How about the popups when you scroll your mouse over them but don't click on them?

3 months since switching here, no popups ever.

Even when I was using IE, if something like that pops up, I just close the window. I don't need to read anything on the internet that badly.

The original post isn't talking about pop-up windows, it's talking about text which floats over the content of a web page, due in part (if not in whole) because pop-up blocking software is so common nowadays. Between those and page redirect ads without skip links, it'll soon be impossible to avoid staring at advertisements when looking for content.

Yes, and I think it's worse than spam (except the kind with large attachments). It's VERY annoying. I just minimize the window and wiat for it to finish while quietly fuming. I refuse to watch the fvcking things (unless I can close it).

Why would anyone do something that has a zero return? Well, they don't, and spam still provides a return. If they spam hundreds of thousands of people, almost certainly some moron will take a bite. It's the same with any form of mass marketing.
