The Worst DVD burner ever?????

So, I was an idiot, got on a buying trip at staples a few months ago and picked up a Pacific Digital Mach 16X to replace my pioneer a05.

Anyways, this is by far the worst burner I have ever owned, none of my DVD players will read the disc's, it won't let me use any Ritek DVD-r', and after every burn I have to restart or else it can't burn again.

I've reformatted, switched it into a different machine same luck every time.

It forces me to use Sonic Record Now Max, is hated by DVD Decrypter, and blows in every other way known to man....

Anyways, anyone know if this could be salvaged with a firmware upgrade? Could this be a repackaged good drive?

Anyone have any info...

Its the Pacific Digital Mach 16X Double Layer DVD+-RW/+-R/CDRW They should have just called it "The worst Burner ever" or only buy if you suck at life...

Any help would be apprecaited or I am throwing this out my 3rd story window....

The issue may lie in a conflict between your previous buring software and the one that came with the drive. Have you uninstalled what you were using before?

Good luck, hopefully your drive is in fact a BenQ. Google shows that most of them are, but some were BTC drives. Here is the cdfreaks page on the BenQ drive.

Flashed it, still no better... It won't let me burn minidvd's still and keeps wanting me to use sonic....

Any reason windows is just picking it up as an Atapi drive from the device manager?

Stole this from the cdfreaks forum: "benq dw1620 write DL+r at 2.4x...and BTC drive write at 4x .You can check on the box." I guess it's possible you have a BTC drive, which if i had to guess is a plie. If you have Nero InfoTool, what does it say the drive is? I guess you can just flash back to PD firmware, return, and buy a NEC 3520/3540 or a pioneer DVR-109.

I have to disagree whole heartedly. They make very high quality CDRW as well as DVDRW. I have 3 right now and all 3 work flawlessly
