The worst accident in the history of auto racing...

[T]he Mercedes took off like a rocket, struck the embankment beside the track, hurtled

end over end and then disintegrated over the crowd. The hood decapitated tightly jammed spectators like a

guillotine. The engine and front axle cut a swath like an artillery barrage. And the car's magnesium body burst

into flames like a torch, burning others to death. In a few searing seconds 82 people were dead and 76 were

maimed.

And they didn't even stop the race!

No, the worst accident in auto racing was when Dale Earnhardt died...I wrote this song to commemorate the occasion.

:music:
It was just another Nascar night
Kept on waiting for a crash or a fight
Me and my buddies were almost out of beer
Thought we might have to wait another year

Oh, but how could we have known....
This was the night that would shock us to the bone
For when you slammed your car into the wall
It took us a moment, then we were appalled!

DALE.....how could you leave us like that!
DALE.....nothin' left to do but sit around and get fat
DALE....now I've lost my whole will to live
DALE....all us rednecks would be willin' to give
Anything to bring you back....

We neeeeed you....
We neeeeed you....:music:

*sniff*

I take extreme offense to that. The day Senna died was indeed much worse than that.

I agree. And 82 people dying is worse than a single race driver.

One death cannot be worse than another.

Both were equally sad.

well, I was trying to make fun of those people who wrote all that horrible poetry/memorial websites after Dale Earnhardt died, but I guess it was too subtle or something...

It's funny because its true. I think we need to learn to laugh a little at death, no one knows whats on the other side.

You will go to hell for this one 😉

hmmm couple of australian accidents come to mind, 1971, Bill brown, Barrel rolling a GTHO Phase 3 Falcon down Conrod straight at Bathurst at more than 150mph splitting the car in two on the guard rail it rolled on to, 1981, Dick Johnson, Hitting a large rock thrown by a spectator at him in his XD 351 falcon tearing the front end out of the car and slamming into a wall at the top of skyline at Bathurst at 120mph while in the lead with less than a lap to go, 1983 Dick johnson hitting a wall at the top of skyline and disappearing into the scrub compleatly dismantleing the XE 351 Falcon and at speeds inexcess of 140mph. luckly no one was killed in these accidents but thos poor V8 falcon...sniff
although Bathurst 2004 was funny when a Kangaroo bounced out in front of a V8 commodore traveling at 130mph and was launched in to outaspace, the car kept going despit sustainting massive front end damage. the roo was seen orbiting earth soon after!

Well, perhaps you forget that Roland Ratzenberger died that weekend during practice for the race the Senna was killed in and Rubens Barichello almost lost his life in a horrible accident during practice/qualifying (can't remember) for that race on Saturday.

Yeah, there were many things that went wrong in the OP's accident but that was more than 50 years ago. Deaths in motor racing particularly to a 3 time world champion are very very rare. I think that race at Imola in 1994 will rank up there as one of the blackest days of motor racing history.

I was going to mention that, but it was the weekend which was cursed.

Senna, Ratzenberger, and Earneadth's were all equally devastating to their family, friends, and fans.

And yes, I wish Senna was still alive to see him race and fight it out with the rest, but that doesn't mean Earneadth's accident is any worse.

Anyway that's all I have to say...sorry for the morbid discussion.
