A Message from United Airlines Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Goodwin
On behalf of all of us at United Airlines, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the individuals, employees and families who had friends or loved ones onboard United Flight 93 or United Flight 175. We are dispatching a team of United employees to assist the families involved and have established a toll-free number that families and friends can call for assistance and information. United is working with all the relevant authorities, including the FBI, to obtain further information on these flights. We have pledged our full cooperation with the authorities. We will be posting all news, statements and other information related to the flights on this web site as soon as it becomes available. In closing, let me say again that our hearts go out to everyone who was onboard these flights, and to their loved ones, as well as anyone on the ground who may have been involved in the tragic events. We will hold them all close in our thoughts and our prayers.
The toll-free phone number for families in the US to call is 1-800-932-8555. United also has established its international toll-free numbers for friends or family members who want more information. Those numbers are:
The Netherlands: 020504051
Germany: 06966985407
Italy: 024829813
Belgium: 027133646
France: 0169199659
London: 0800968130

REMAINING AIRCRAFT ACCOUNTED FOR, AMERICAN CONFIRMS
FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines is now confirming that all remaining airplanes in the American Airlines system, including TWA and American Eagle, have been accounted for and are safe. This morning, two American jets carrying 158 passengers and 17 crewmembers were lost in apparent terrorist attacks.
Federal authorities shut down air traffic in the United States today, and American has cancelled its scheduled flights through at least noon Wednesday, making it difficult for American CARE team members to be flown in from other cities to assist. Nevertheless, local CARE team members based in New York, Boston, Washington and Los Angeles have been called to local airports to assist relatives of those who may have been on board Flights 11 and 77 during today's attacks. American is also in touch with relatives to offer assistance by telephone.
"Every effort is being made in every corner of the company to help the families of our customers and our fellow employees," Chairman and CEO Donald J. Carty said of the assistance effort this afternoon.
American also said that, once flights resume, the company will reaccommodate customers on AA, TWA and Eagle without penalty.
Media calls should be directed to the FBI. Customers who wish to receive information about relatives should call American's response number at 1-800-245-0999.
