That's easy to say until you look at the cost. Most adoptions are $20K -$30K+. Why would someone in middle class or below opt to spend 30 grand to adopt when they could make a baby for practically free?

Because my SO and I are both vehemently against having a child when there are already so many kids out there that aren't going anywhere. If I can afford it and I would like to do it why should't I?

with current technology, the earth can support a total population of around 100 billion
with future technology, even more

We already have food production problems with about ~7B we arent talking about physical space here when we talk about how many people the world can support. There is enough physical room but we all drink water, eat food, breathe air, etc. I dont think current technology would allow for ~14.3x our current population.

There are more serious issues than production problems. AFAIK.. the food that is being produced could easily support the whole population. Availability of fresh water and food storage are greater issues that need to be tackled than food production.

in 3rd world countries your children are your retirement fund. So people there have as many as possible to ensure they can relax in their old age. Fix that problem and hopefully we will fix population growth.

i am brazillian on of the 3rd world countries, this was never true.
it's just really bad sexual education, period!

just like 10 years ago, condoms became free.
And it was for AIDS control, end up helping more than that

Right, with Africa being predominately a christian nation this makes perfect sense!

Actually, in more developed parts of Sub Saharan Africa, Christianity IS huge, and it WAS the reason why AIDS is so prevalent, one of the prime countries being Uganda. This phenomenon is NOT unique to Uganda. Huge tracts of Sub Saharan Africa was hit in a bad way due to christian aid groups and fundamentalists messing with condoms programs set in Africa to reduce STD transmission rates.

Hell, even USAID had policies influenced by the christian right and did tons of harm.
