The Word "Torrential"

Anubis

No Lifer
Is this word ever used for anything other then "A Torrential Downpour"? Because that the only time I?ve ever heard it. I think it?s a cool word. Is it used for anything else?

Good, maybe now you can stop posting.

Looking at his post count, and going by ATOT standards, I don't think he ever really started.....

I've not seen Torrential used any other way, but according dictionary.com the root Torrent is used in other ways as you will see in the following examples:

At length, Erasmus, that great injured name, . . . Stemmed the wild torrent of a barbarous age. --Pope.
The roaring torrent is deep and wide. --Longfellow
``Waves of torrent fire.'' --Milton

They also give a few examples of Torrential that do not involve rain:

torrential erosion - likely caused by Torrential rain.

torrential applause - well, that is not rain related!
