Quite a delay from their original May 16th target

CD Projekt RED would like to announce that the release date of The Witcher Enhanced Edition has been finally set. Consequently, the vastly improved edition of the acclaimed CD Projekt RED?s magnum opus has been set for the first half of September 2008. Setting the release date for September results from the requirement of polishing all ten language versions and releasing The Witcher Enhanced Edition in all languages at the same time. The Enhanced Edition by itself will be a deluxe one, containing a lot of additional content not available in the basic version of the game.

The exclusive edition of The Witcher apart from the game dvd will also consist of a video dvd, a bonus materials dvd (among all D?jinni the adventure editor and 2 official adventures ?The price of neutrality? and ?Side effect?), the game soundtrack as well as a music cd with music inspired by the game. The new content and improvements will be available to registered users of the game free-of-charge.

Ya I've been checking every few weeks on CDPR's forums for an update, but they've been really quiet about the delay. I have to think the release of some other titles influenced them going back, the voice acting and character animations/lip sync'ing look like a B-movie compared to something like Mass Effect. I guess I'll have to wait a few more months to play through this again.

I would still rate The Witcher above Mass Effect any day of the week. Its character interaction was leaps and bounds above ME, and Geralt didn't have any party members with him.

I agree, don't know if I'll be able to play it in September especially with all the new other games on the way like Warhammer etc..but I'll probably get around to replaying it with the new content at some point .

so what is the word on the patches that gave the first official extra senerio and the D'jinni editor?

Is that out yet... is it ever coming out?

The 1.3 patch and D'jinni editor were released a few months ago.

Maybe after the Enhanced Edition fixes, but right now I'd say Mass Effect is easily the more enjoyable game experience. Polish does count and right now the lack of polish on Witcher is making it impossible for me to play through it again knowing the EE is aiming to address many of those areas.

The Witcher was written in Polish and acted in Polish, which is why the kung-fu movie type lip-synching is prevalent. Just like Stalker.

lol I wasn't referring to the language "Polish", I was referring to polish, in reference to production value.

I actually knew that you were talking about polish as in how well the little details are done, but I thought it was funny that the "polish" problems you mentioned were because the game was written and acted in "Polish" and I couldn't help myself with the play on words. I am glad I made you laugh though, it is nice to bring a smile to peoples faces on occasion.

Are you serious :( Now i play alot of rpg :! Japanese and western ... Witcher was is an awesome game but it really doesn't bring anything new on table that i haven't already seen. I have played laods of RPG on PC , XBOX 360 , PS2 , PS1. To me witcher is excellent game but nothing really ground breaking like some people like every one to believe.

I see so much rage between the RPG community that i really don't see in the FPS community. Can't we play them all ?

Also comparing Mass effect to Witcher is a little crazy. Its like comparing Diablo to FF or HL to Stalker.

Anyways , i am looking forward to this update.

LOL...thats odd, i play evey rpg i can get my hands on too, and i agree with Bateluer about the Witcher being leaps and bounds above Mass Effect.

I can honestly say, just substituting Mass Effect for the The Witcher in that sentence sums up my feeling on the ME hype..
To me Mass Effect is an excellent game but nothing really ground breaking like some people like every one to believe.

Anyway, what i do agree with is a good RPG is a good rpg, and both are good, which is better depends on your personal preference.
Its just nice to be able to play some good rpg's and get our moneys worth of gameplay nowadays when most games are just getting shorter.

Im looking forward to the Witcher Enhanced edition and i'll buy it even though i own the original, just to play through the game again with the new features.

I wish it was out now, I'm bored...LOL

I got the Witcher OEM version from the 9600 GT I bought a while back ago for my spare rig, and it's been sitting there ever since I heard about the enhanced edition coming out. I gave the game a try and was instantly sucked into the environment and the story. It's really hard for me to put the game away, but I'm doing my best not to spoil it and wait for the enhanced edition to come out so I can get it right from the get go.

You can play through the game more than once pretty easily. :p

likewise, except the last part about being "sucked in" since I still failed to land a successful attack. :(

I'm hoping this comes out in September as scheduled. There are some bugs that are beginning to bother me. Have any of you noticed the time of day randomly rewinding? For example, I'm hanging around to do something I need to do. I check the clock and it's 11:30. I fiddle around a little longer, thinking man, it really should be noon by now. I check the clock, and it says 10:00.

What's up with that?

Edit: In a similar manner, the quest entries in the journal sometimes roll themselves back. For example, when I found the body (trying not to spoil) in the crypt, it was noted in my journal in the appropriate quest line. When I look at that quest now, it's not there.

Edit 2: And I'm as patched up as I can be at this point in time.

Just finished it, thought it was a great experience.

And according to Wikipedia, the Enhanced Version:
...The significant changes expected to be featured in the enhanced version are new animations, additional NPC models, expanded and corrected dialogues in translated versions, improved stability, and load times reduced by roughly 80%. This update will be available for a free download for owners of the current version.

I'm itching to play this game...I bought the UK version on it's release day but I've only ever played an hour into it because I've been waiting for this "Enhanced Edition"

I know nothing about this game. You have my interest though...

Easily one of the best RPGs since BG2. Far superior to Mass Effect IMO.

I am waiting on my 8800GT to be RMA'd. When I get it back I may investigate this enchanced "Witcher".

This is very exciting news! I bought the game months ago, but only loaded it up a few weeks back. I've been hooked since and just beat it for the first time last night. :D

Great game; I was very impressed. I know it was buggy as heck when first released, but patch 1.3 fixed most things. The game has crashed to the desktop a few times. I'm assuming it's "the game" and not my system as I have no crashes like that in any other game. But I save often, so it's not TOO bad...still annoying though. Hopefully level load times will be fixed in the EE; I find them to be very long.

On the CD Projekt forums, someone asked "Am I going to have to buy the EE or will there be a patch?"

One of the Forum Mods replied:

The EE will be free to download and fix the game for those who already own the original and have registered it on the site.

Woohoo! :beer::D
