* 2.2GHz dual-core processor
* 1GB RAM (XP), 2GB RAM (Vista/7)
* GeForce 8800 series w/ 512MB VRAM or comparable ATI/AMD GPU

Nothing too strenuous, it seems. An 8800 class GPU is easily had for very cheap, and 2.2Ghz dual core CPUs easily under the 100 dollar price point. Very cheap. Going to guess that most gamers have a system that exceeds these specs anyway.
Dev diary at link.

Here is what these requirements really mean. The game will run like CRAP with those specs at any modern screen's native resolution, while at the same time looking much worse than games from a few years ago, because developers have forgotten how to create efficient engines. You'll need a quad core with 4-8GB RAM and a GTX480 to run it at low-medium settings, and it still won't look as good as games from a few years ago!

I'd pre-order from Steam if I was sure it wasn't going to be censored.

If you preorder from GoG, then you get it at a discount, with extra content, without any DRM, and as a bonus, you don't have to actually buy the game when it comes out if you change your mind (they don't take any billing information to charge you, just bill you when it comes out).

Of course CD Projekt also owns GoG, so this is kind of an internal promotion they are doing.

Yes, minimum specs are always bogus. When you look at a video game's "minimum system requirements", they're basically saying "this is the bare-minimum you need to run the game. Not to actually play it decently, not to actually have it look good... just to run it." If you want the game to actually look NICE, and run at 30+ frames/sec at your native resolution, you will need something much higher than a 8800gt and 1GB of memory.

I really wish they would change the minimum specs from 'this is what it will take to launch the game' to 'this is what it will take to get medium settings, 30fps' (the current recommended level). And then the recommended specs could be 'this is what you need for medium-high at 60fps, or high-ultra high at 30fps, anything above these specs is pure gravy'.

This is why many video games also have a "Recommended system requirements" list in addition to the "Minimum system requirements". I'm not sure how many developers do this anymore though.

I figure my cpu is acceptable (athlon ii 630, running stock right now), but I'd probably want to upgrade my video card; I'm still rocking the venerable 8800gt.

I hate minimum system requirements.

It's like saying "Minimum amount of gas you need to drive from 'X' to Vegas".

Thanks bro, but I'd like to have a little buffer zone to play with.

I really love the Penny-Arcade sketch from when the first Witcher came out.

Pros: Witchier than I expected
Cons: Not quite witchy enough

Definitely pumped for this one. Is there a confirmed release date? I'm far too lazy to check...

What's this talk of the game being censored on STEAM? What's that in reference to?

News to me. Speculation, I think, considering the the censoring of Witcher 1 in the US. I tagged a preorder on GoG, if its censored, I cancel. Simple as that.
