The topics are out there and we have been discussing them for quite some time, months actually with the release of the WikiLeaks "edited for maximum damage" videos of the helicopter engagement in Iraq.

I am sure you remember that WikiLeaks did not release raw material then but a highly selectively edited version designed to cause maximum harm to the reputation of the United States. That is and always has been a primary agenda of theirs.

The difference here is that the OP wants to use AT Forums as his personal means of spreading the WikiLeaks information, edited, not edited, whatever, as far and as wide as he can.

Some mod or mods just made a decision to enable him to do so. With that decision, AT just became part of WikiLeaks dissemination team.

Well if I were you I wouldn't stand for it and from now on refuse to be part of these forums.

My $0.02.

I'll have to second the sentiment that this thread should not be running here at the anandtech forums. I do realize that we've got some people in high places here that would like to see major changes in this country of ours, but this is over the top. It doesn't belong here.

Support/Download The WikiLeaks Data For Yourself

If out of curiousity, support or other reasons you'd like to host a mirror of the WikiLeaks website, you can read instructions on how to do that here.

As mentioned in this WikiLeaks Twitter message, anyone with a BitTorrent client can also download all of the Cablegate data in encrypted form using this torrent tracker hosted at The Pirate Bay. It's a 1.4GB file that you will not be able to read the contents of unless WikiLeaks staff make the password public.

The door has been opened for some major policing by the staff here. You've brought it upon yourself. But it's not too late.

It's widely considered that the implications of the release of these documents have possible dire consequences. If behavior such as this is condoned here, expect more of the same.

This thread was rightfully locked initially and it hadn't crossed any boundaries at that time.

I've not downloaded any of these but I'd be pretty surprised if they stuck some malware into a txt file.

I assuming you have a source for this and aren't just pulling it out your arse?

If I were a hostile power and I wanted to target an American intelligence agency or the State Department or the Justice Department, I certainly would look at this as a fucking wonderful opportunity. All of them are charged with reviewing the files. The blame will fall on WikiLeaks, not me.

Dude you really are being slimy here. You want to shut down his thread because you don't like it. None of the information in the OP is illegal, or hard to find or obscure.

The internet is for the dissemination of information, that's why it was built.

If you don't like that you could, you know, disconnect yourself from it.

Since when is dissemination illegal? News Papers have published classified stuff since beginning of time in USA. The crime is in stealing it not in dissemination AFAIK.

Perhaps you might explain your own opinion on the decision.

Mine is cautionary on many levels, as you can tell if you take the time to read my many posts on this.

you really honestly think a hostile power has been waiting for wikileaks to release this shit? shit they more than likely already knew? you think iran or north korea have been sitting on their computers on the internet hitting F5 on the wikileaks page for several years now like some retard on /b/ trying to fap?

my brain is full of fuck.

edit: the blame would fall on you because you chose to act on it, wikileaks chose to publish it they didn't say use it. gun shops sell you guns, you chose whether to kill someone or use it for protection only. liqour stores sell you booze, its your choice to drink your self to death or drive drunk and kill people, or just sit at home sitting on some scotch. by your logic, gun and liqour stores should be held responsible for all gun/alcohol related deaths....since you think wikileaks should be held accountable. people are the problem, not guns/alcohol/wikileaks

You don't think hostile powers knew pretty much all of the information anyway? The only people being kept in the dark were the general public.

Of course he is being slimy, have you tried reading some of the utter nonsense he has posted in the past?
PJabber pretends to be some highly intellectual "classical liberal" purist, but when it comes to his arguments he is about as intellectual and "classically liberal" as a guy sitting on his porch with a warm 12 pack of Natural Ice watching his bug zapper.

Nice name calling, but no real substance. No one, including U.S. Government sources has claimed that anything posted on WikiLeaks is false. You have yet to disprove anything they've posted, let alone any of your lame fear mongering that they could be infected.

As I said, that's the same kind of shit you and the rest of the right wingnut noise factory were spewing when you pimped your mercifully EX-Traitor In Chief, George W. Bush and his gang of traitors, murderers, torturers, war criminals, war profiteers and general incompetents.

And for the record, I'm none too pleased with Obama's failure live up to his promises and commitments to change that.

Geez, enough with the Bush bashing!

The Bradley Manning information is almost entirely dated during the Obama Administration.

Get used to it, Assange and pals don't give a shit about Bush or Obama, they are out to get the U.S. They say so themselves over and over again.

And I don't have to go far in pointing out that WikiLeaks released edited and modified versions with highly "selective" commentary when they did their first releases of the helicopter attack in Iraq.

Do you think they don't have an agenda? It certainly isn't to get at some kind of indisputable "truth."

Does it matter? They didn't make this shit up, people did it with your authority and in your name, why shouldn't you know about it.

Maybe governments in future will not try to get away with the amount of bullshit they do if they think things are going to be more open.

I am not saying it is illegal. We are not yet at that point in this country. In time, and with more activity by WikiLeaks and imitators, we may yet be there with our own version of an Official Secrets Act. This is one of Assange's goals.

The press is but one way for WikiLeaks to do the damage they want to do. The press is always tempted to take the stolen material and make it available in any number of ways. What do they do? Further propagate it? Hold it?

Your actions are now subject to consideration. You have made an enabling and abetting decision. You have agreed with WikiLeaks hostile intent or you are making an anarchic statement for unbridled freedom or you may not give a fuck and it is all just a joke on the Man. It all depends on where your head is at, but you still made the call to be part of the WikiLeaks agenda.

The point here is that all actions bear responsibility. The OP is an active player - he posted the links, he wants you to send your money, he wants the maximum damage.

AT just made a decision for whatever reason to enable the OP and WikiLeaks. I am curious why.

This is an American forum but the values of the mods are not apparent except in those instances where they make a decision to allow or deny a post or a thread. They each have an agenda and a responsibility, though what they believe that responsibility to be is unclear. I am not going to put words in their mouths, let them explain their position if they care to.

Your free to question our motives in the proper forum, however P&N is not it.

LOL, do you think that this is going to stop governments being governments, at least nominally serving the interests of their nations and/or entrenched powers?

The response that Assange is hoping for and that he will certainly get to one extent or another here and elsewhere, is that information availability will now be further compartmentalized and less open to review, that a greater sense of distrust will be formalized. All in the hope that the United States as a capitalist democracy and a stumbling block to his "ideal" society will suffer most.

His intent is to make this so onerous that it results in a revolutionary response in the United States and other capitalist democracies and/or engenders a further polarization on a world scale that furthers his anarchic and nihilist agenda. No more and no less.

Why do you think the most common adjective used to describe him is "megalomaniac?"

LOL, thanks! You sound like an American!

Seriously, what don't you agree with?

Actually he sounds like one of those French surrender-monkeys, Voltaire. While he never said it himself his English biographer used the phrase to sum up Voltaire's position on free speech.

None of this was uttered by an American.

because those in power are scared of having to face what they actually say and do

LOL, TOTALLY inappropriate video! My family is out shopping and I am not, hehehehe. I am sitting here, just sippin' a nice whiskey toddy waiting for my pizza to be served up. I put my feet up, pose a few questions that are apparently highly uncomfortable to some and take another sip.

I have faith that the United States will survive this just as it has survived other anarchist attacks in earlier times. Clowns like these all have the same agenda and it is only the methodology of the attacks that is different.

What is really amusing is how so many think that anarchy is something new and fresh when it is just a rehash of the same ol' same ol' from the last century or two. Just like then, there are the bomb throwers and those that give them succor.
