The way domestic violence is handled in the US is ridiculous

just watched an episode of cops, dude has a bleeding stab wound on him, woman has no marks whatsoever

but she claims he choked her, he claims she stabbed him

guess who goes to jail and who is left at the guy's apartment that he was trying to kick her out of?

That's.just.wrong.

women are grossly over protected by the law and they take advantage of it - see 90% of divorces and custody battles for prime examples

srsly...i kept waiting for the cops to take her in too, seemed pretty simple to me

funny he was in cuffs within 30 seconds of the police arriving, and she's just sitting on the stairs, not even being searched or anything

considering dude's saying he got stabbed, you'd think a search for the weapon would be in order 😕

Pretty pathetic. I wonder if there have always been bad cops like this and if we just hear more about it because of the intarweb, or if policemen are getting worse. I just saw a video today of a cop in TX tasering a man while he held his newborn baby at the hospital.

Yeap.

i have seen something like that a few times on Cops. One had a women call the cops that her boyfriend was choking her. The cops got there and arrested the guy. during talking witnesses came over and said she was hitting him. though he did push her off of him when she was scratching him.

she had marks on her neck. when she raised her hands to shot it looked like she had done it to herself. Even teh cops said that as they walked out.

but guess who got arrested? yeap the guy. They have witness's that say she was hitting him and even think she did the damage to herself.

yeah read about that.

while that was extreamly stupid i can understand it. He was trying to leave the hospital. The nurses and security did nto know who he was and was trying to get him to give them the baby

It all depends on who called the cops and filed the complaint.

If the guy called the cops and claimed his wife was beating him up, they would be obliged to come and arrest the woman.

Problem is, most guys have too much pride to call the cops and say "Please hlp my wife is beating me up!"

There's video, too.

waggy, I see what you're saying, but there is no excuse or reason to endanger a baby like that.

However, to be fair (since I originally questioned the competence of police), it wasn't a police officer that did it, it was a security guard.

Edit: no, the security guard was an off-duty cop.

Google it....it was an item on yahoo the other daY!!

HOUSTON ? In a confrontation captured on videotape, a hospital security guard fired a stun gun to stop a defiant father from taking home his newborn, sending both man and child crashing to the floor. Now William Lewis says his baby girl suffers from head trauma because she was dropped.

"I've got to wonder what kind of moron would Tase an adult holding a baby," said George Kirkham, a former police officer and criminologist at Florida State University. "It doesn't take rocket science to realize the baby is going to fall."

Lewis, 30, said the April 13 episode began after he and his wife felt mistreated by staff at the Woman's Hospital of Texas and they decided to leave. Hospital employees told him doctors would not allow it, but Lewis picked up the baby and strode to a bank of elevators.

The elevators would not move because wristband sensors on each baby shut them off if anyone takes an infant without permission.

so if i was trying to kill someone and they locked themselves in a closet to get away from me, so i called the cops because i couldn't get to them, they would be obliged to arrest the person hiding in the closet because i said he/she hit me? fvck that

they're supposed to ascertain the situation based on the info they get on the scene, not who called first

yeah the local hospital has it so the doors do not open. Also the police are called.

oh and the mother has the a matching sensor on her that matches the baby

I have seen some episodes on Cops that go down like that but I have also seen some where the woman goes to jail even though she was the one that called the cops. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread rarely is it the male that calls the cops in these situations so the cops arrive on the scene with only the woman's side of the story. It really does come down to the cops judgement and who they believe after they arrive on the scene and sort things out. I think I remember the episode the OP is talking about and I couldn't understand why the cops settled it the way they did either.

And I can find a story where a guy stabs his wife, gets paroled quickly then shoots her in the head.

I would think that law enforcement would prefer to err on the side of caution.

I am all for makeing sure a guy who beats his wife sits in jail. What i wan tis them be fair. IF they come to a house where the women has been beating the husband and she claims to be getting abused there is no reason for the husband to be arrested but it happens far more then people know.

The reason they always take the guy away is because they see him as more likely to cause harm. It's pretty F'ed up that a woman can basically send a guy to the hospital and get away with it, but if he slaps her once it's jail time.

Thats grounds for killing the cop in my book. I read the story, and damn if there wouldn't be repercussions if it happened to me.

it varies from state to state

i have seen Cops! episodes where they arrest both when they both have visible wounds

Not unless of course the father was suicidal or something.

Good point. I'd forgotten that women were incapable of firing guns, making the unequal treatment of the sexes totally justified.
