I'm surprised the new Passat engine is not on there... The W8 or something... seems innovative.

It's about time they come up with some new engine that is totally different... Like, maybe a rotary instead of piston engine.

Why the Accord's engine is on the list when the TL-type S engine was never good enough to make it?

um.... interesting list. Any link to back up WHY these engines were chosen? I can think of at least 5 that should have been on that list, but didn't make it.

Curious - but which motors do you think should've made it?

I'm amazed Toyota didn't make it on there once.

What is this based on? are they just looking at some peak numbers on paper and saying WOW put it down. Did they even look at these engines on a crate and say, "Why TF did they put this here?", and "Whats with this harness?"

Exactly what I was thinking. WHat are they taking into account? "Wow" factor? Reliability? Production number? Anyone have a link to see what they base their decisions on?

What about the bulletproof GM 3800? Oh yeah.. It isn't overhead cam, and <gasp> uses PUSHRODS! The HORROR..

The W8 is a nice piece of technology, but the engine itself is very expensive and heavy for it's size. For that reason, it jacks the price of the Passat W8 to point where it costs as much as an Audi A4 3.0, which has equal performance but with a BUNCH more extra features.

maybe becoz the new toyota engine sucks?
yeah, let's break it down
the 1.8l on Corolla, Matrix, and Celica:
no torque, "VVTi" is basically a VTEC mimic, which Honda has done it years ago,
2.4l i4 and 3.0 V6 on the Camry, okay engine but Honda's V6 and Nissan V6 and 2.5L i4 beat it in horsepower and gas comsumption.
the i6 3.0 and V8 4.30 in Lexus GS, SC, IS, and LS, all darn good but old engine from years ago.

the best toyota engine came around 5 years ago, with their 1.6L (in 86-89 corolla GTS ), 2.0L (in MR2 turbos and IS200), and 3.0 I6 w/o VVTi (supra).

Why the Accord's engine is on the list when the TL-type S engine was never good enough to make it?
maybe price came as a factor too?
but yeah, the 3.2 L Type S engine is pretty kewl.

The Hemi is back. First year back and its already on the list. Chevy 350 should be on that list as well, but I guess only 1 domestic motor can make it on any list. Worship the imports.

Please how did the...

- Ford Motor Co. 6L Power Stroke OHV Turbodiesel V-8 (F-Series Super
Duty)

Make the list but no mention of the Isuzu/GM DuraMax 6.6L diesel. The Duramax is a all round better motor then the ford. I know I have driven trucks with both and seen the design and the DuraMax a way a head of the Ford.

Look Here

That just tells me how little you truly know about manufacturing. Since the 1960's, American Engines were made with cheap Japanese parts and built in manufacturing plants in Mexico. Japanese Engines (such as Hondas) are built with high quality parts from America (Ohio, Mich. etc). That is why Honda remains the leader of all engine makers from lawnmower engines all the way to industrial engines....because they use mostly American made material and American skilled labor.

Oh yeh, back in the 1980's when American's were asking to buy only American cars, they didn't even realize that they'd be putting their own people out of jobs. Same philosophy now. You buy an American car and you'd be helping extend low wages in Mexico!

That motor makes almost no power for what it has. They can't even touch a GM PUSHROD motor, let alone the future Overhead cam motors GM is coimg out with. Also this motor had a lot of oil and relability problems when it came out.

Sorry but ford should have tweaked the 5.0L motor, or something. as the 4.6L is a let down. And I hear that a lot from ford heads.
